Punjabi University Patiala has signed an MoU with the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) to focus upon academic cooperation in the Department of Economics. For this Memorandum of Understanding, UNBC’s Department of Economics Professor, Dr Fiona Macphail visited the Punjabi University.
The Punjabi University has already signed a general MoU with UNBC. However, the academic agreement builds upon the UNBC and PBIU’s MoU signed by the acting president Geoffrey Payne and Vice-Chancellor Professor BS Ghuman.
During the formal function organised by Directorate, International Students (DIS) at Syndicate Room, Professor Ghuman talked about how the two universities are entering into the next phase of the mutual corporation. He further added that the MoU focuses on providing education opportunities to graduate students in the field of economics, specifically under the UNBC MA Development Economics program. The way students from UNBC along with their teacher visited the Punjabi University for a two-week workshop, the same way students from PBIU will visit UNBC soon. The professor also expressed that the universities should now enter the operational phase and discuss the possible sectors in which both can collaborate and work together.
Talking about the MoU, Professor Fiona expressed that they feel delighted to work with the Punjabi University. She also added that both the universities will now collaborate and work together to explore new possibilities.
Through this MoU, both universities have agreed to facilitate students' admission process. Both the universities will provide proper advisory and guidance, and work toward the integration of students into their institutes. Any BA Honors (Economics) student with a minimum grade point of 7 meets the eligibility criteria for admission to the UNBC MA Development Economics degree program.
