Refund full fees if admission is cancelled, UGC tells universities, colleges
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all affiliated universities and colleges to fully refund fees of students on account of cancellation of admissions or migrations that are requested till October 31 for the 2021-22 academic session.
In a letter to the Vice Chancellors of all universities and Principals of all colleges, the UGC said, "In view of the financial hardships being faced by parents due to lockdowns and related factors, a full refund of fees should be made on account of all cancellations of admissions/ migrations of students up to October 31, 2021 for the academic session 2021-2022 as a special case."
It clarified, “The entire fee, including all charges, should be refunded (i.e. there should be zero cancellation charges/migrations up to October 31, 2021. Thereafter, on cancellation/withdrawal of admissions up to December 31, 2021, the entire fee collected from a student should be refunded in full after deducting not more than Rs 1,000 as processing fee.”
The commission directed all higher education institutes to compulsorily follow these guidelines for fees refund. It clarified that students or parents could directly report to the UGC in case their college or university denied to fee refund.
The UGC had released the academic calendar for the 2021-2022 session on July 16. It has directed higher educational institutions to conclude the admission process by September 30 and begin classes on October 1.
