Teaching methodology or Pedagogy adopted by JDIFT is primarily ‘Student Centric’ and ‘Industry ready’, says HOD

In a conversation with Shiksha.com, Head of the Department Ankul Gulati at JD Institute of Fashion Technology talks at length about the curriculum and pedagogy in detail.  He goes into detail talking about the student-centric approach followed at the institute keeping in mind the individual learner’s need. He also talks about the institute’s collaboration with various creative industry partners such as design, manufacturing, retail and services that opens up various career gateways for students upon the completion of the programme.

Q: What are the salient features of the teaching methodology adopted by your college? How does this differ from others?

A: Teaching methodology or Pedagogy adopted by JD Institute of Fashion Technology is primarily ‘Student Centric’ and ‘Industry ready’. We inculcate in our student's skills and knowledge that are need of the hour and future industry-ready. This includes highly conceptualised design projects to instill a high level of design thinking with a balance of Industry live projects often in collaboration with the Export industry and Domestic retail segment. Students hence benefit from real-time requirements from the Industry they will contribute to in the future as well as create individual expressions simulations.

Q: How are you preparing your students to be Industry ready?

A: JD Institute of Fashion Technology takes pride in constant collaboration with the creative industry, be it Design, manufacturing, retail and services to bring to our students live projects that enable them to gain an experiential and immersive experience while learning at our Institute. In addition, our faculty are well trained with National and International certification along with constant Industry exposure to keep learning relevant.

Q: What are the qualities you are looking for in student applicants? What qualities do they need to do well in your course?

A: While shortlisting students, we generally look for the right aptitude towards creativity, commitment towards the course/ ability and enthusiasm as well as basic communication skills. These are skills that also help students to perform better in the curriculum.

Q: How do you ensure that your course curriculum is up to date and meets industry requirements?

A: With multiple collaborations with our industry partners, we often bring in live industry projects that are relevant to current times. The course curriculum is updated and upgraded as per current Industry practices and software that keep our students' future-ready for challenges.

Q: Is your college receptive to innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship? How? Could you cite some examples of these

A:  As mentioned in the previous answers, we strive to work hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder with the industry.
