In an interview with Shiksha.com, Dr Kanchan Koul, Assistant Professor Acharya Institute of Health Sciences, discusses the institute's different programmes and strategies for assisting students in becoming career-ready. She goes into great length on the strategies and principles she uses to make the teaching and learning process for BPT and MPT students incredibly effective. Q: What are the salient features of the teaching methodology adopted by your college? How does this differ from others?
A: There are set of practices and principles used by me to make the process of teaching and learning highly effective among BPT and MPT students. At college, I often used an interactive and active participation approach, clear communication with intense supervision, critical thinking, case-based problem-solving approach, teacher-centred approach, learner-centred approach, a content-focused method to make learning a best and easy-going happy process.
Q: How are you preparing your students to be Industry ready?
A: By providing them intense experimental training on actual patients in Acharya outpatient department, supervised hospital posting and clinical case presentation, supervised bedside patient assessments, frequent industrial visits, enrolling students for professional webinars, sports-based events and case report submission.
Q: Is Acharya Institute of Health Sciences a good college/Institute?
Q: What are the qualities you are looking for in student applicants? What qualities do they need to do well in your course?
A: The qualities I am looking for, in a student enrolling for a physiotherapy course are - Effective communication, discipline, punctuality, a positive attitude, an ability to think and work independently, to complete given task on time, good written english ability, an ability to work well in groups and a sense of social responsibility as they need to treat live patients, they should be able to raise questions and think critically.
Q: How do you ensure that your course curriculum is up to date and meets industry requirements?
A: To make sure the curriculum which I am following is up to date I go through recent Evidence-Based Research, I frequently check RGUHS curriculum for updates. I attend webinars on Recent Advances of Physiotherapy to see current trends in our profession. I follow the 2021- 2022 National and International Journals of Physiotherapy to give the best current updated knowledge to both BPT and MPT students. I am practising physiotherapy at Acharya OPD to check for industrial requirements.

A: Yes, I believe our college is receptive to innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship.
