UGC released an official notice and advised the institutions to form a dedicated cell to help students and handle their grievances related to examinations and other academic activities arising due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
University Grants Commission (UGC) directed all universities to consider the issued guidelines on examinations and academic calendar by the Commission. UGC also stated that all the academic activities conducted by the University must be planned to keep in view the safety and interest of all stakeholders. In order to address all the Universities, UGC released an official notice and advised the institutions to form a dedicated cell to help students and handle their grievances related to examinations and other academic activities arising due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
The official notice released by UGC reads, “The UGC has issued Guidelines on Examinations and Academic Calendar in view of COVID-19 Pandemic on 29 April 2020. Accordingly, all universities have been advised to plan their academic activities keeping in view the safety and interest of all stakeholders, giving the highest priority to the health of all concerned, while adopting and implementing the Guidelines.”
Talking about forming a dedicated COVID-19 cell, the notice further states, “Universities have also been requested to establish a Cell for handling grievances of the students related to examinations and other academic activities arising due to this pandemic and notify the same to the students.”
The Commission also informed that in order to assist teachers, students and institutions and to monitor the queries, grievances, and other academic matters, the UGC has undertaken some important steps amid arising Pandemic. According to the official notice, the steps taken by the Commission are mentioned below:
- A dedicated Help Line Number: 011-23236374 has been set up
- An email address: covid19help.ugc@gmaiI.com has been created.
- Students can also lodge their grievances on the existing Online Students Grievance Redressal Portal of UGC at https://www.ugc.ac,in/grievance/student aspx
- A Task Force has been constituted at UGC to monitor concerns/ grievances of students. teachers, and institutions, and redress them accordingly.
The UGC also directed all the Universities and colleges to upload a copy of the issued public notice on their official websites and also share it with the teaching and student community via e-mail and other digital media.
