The University Grants Commission decided to make some changes in the exam guidelines 2020 in the view of the ongoing pandemic situation in the Country.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) decided to revise its exam guidelines for the country. The decision to revise UGC Exam Guidelines 2020 is taken after several large institutions with student populations running into lakhs expressed their inability to hold exams amid the ongoing pandemic crisis.

Talking about this much-needed decision, AICTE chairman Anil Sahasrabuddhe said, "Now, taking into context the current COVID-19 pandemic situation in different states, the UGC is revising the guidelines that were earlier released."

Mr Anil Further expressed that the UGC Exam Guidelines 2020 will be revised with the inputs of professional bodies such as AICTE, Architecture Council, Bar Council of India, etc. "This time around, the UGC has also roped in all the apex professional bodies like AICTE, Bar Council of India, Architecture Council, Pharmacy council, among others. We will review the situation across the country and release new exam guidelines," he said.

In view of the ongoing emergency situation due to the severe spread of the contagious novel coronavirus, the Medical Council of India, the Dental Council of India, Council of Architecture and Bar Council of India asked colleges to put candidates through online exams or a project. Some councils also stated that merely graduating students without putting them through an exam would violate their respective Acts. Whereas many state governments are opting to promote the students of universities and colleges without conducting any exam.

Due to the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus, the academic institutions are closed since the month of March considering the safety of the students and staff. Conducting offline exams is not possible. Institutions are exploring alternatives to conduct academic activities. However, the academic calendar across the globe is disrupted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
