Uniform Code in Sanghamitra B.Ed College

Teachers are an epitome of discipline and simplicity and therefore having a uniform code in the college is a must.

Sanghamitra B.Ed College, Ranchi is built under the parasol of the World Buddha Foundation and therefore follows the principle of the Buddhist culture- simple and elegant. Since it is a teacher-training college, the focus is on building the attitude of a teacher in the students. Teachers are an epitome of discipline and simplicity and therefore having a uniform code in the college is necessary. Unlike other courses, the teacher training program not only focuses on the academic development of the students but also on their overall learning and evolvement as perfect teachers. This is where a uniform code comes in place. Sanghamitra B.Ed College has a uniform code, which the students abide to follow. 

The college itself provides the uniform to reduce the risk of any disparity. Suitable charges for the same are levied. Sanghamitra B.Ed College has two sets of uniforms for the female students and one set for the male. The uniform for the females consists of a salwar suit and a saree along with a blazer for the winter. The male set consists of a formally stitched shirt and pants along with a blazer for the winter. The college provides the fabric for the uniform with stitching instructions and exact measurements to maintain the decorum.

Uniform for Female Students

Female students are instructed to stitch the bottom of the suit as a ‘full flared patiala/ salwar’ along with a collared, knee-length `kameez/ suit’. The sleeves of the top should be three-quarters along with a properly pleated veil/ dupatta. For the saree, the fabric along with the under-skirt is provided. Students need to get the blouse stitched in a matching colour with a similar neck and sleeve design as the suit. The uniform is yellow-grey in colour with grey blazers and a mud yellow saree. Both the uniforms shall be paired with black formal heels and a sleek bun covered with a net. 

Uniform for Male Students

The male students also have to follow strict instructions for the uniform. Only full-sleeved shirts with spread collars are permitted along with full-length formal cut pants. No other uniform is there for the male students. The shirt is yellow and the bottom is grey with a matching grey blazer. The uniform shall be paired with black formal shoes. Even though the college arranges the uniform, there is no logo or stamp of the college/ university.

Sanghamitra B.Ed College is quite strict with the presentation of the students. A properly ironed uniform with polished shoes and tidily done hair are a must. Students should wear identity cards all the time inside the campus. Trimmed nails with no polish are regularly checked. There is a defined way to spruce up the dressing and the students are expected to adorn the same. Minimal jewellery like earrings and a lightweight chain is permissible. No restrictions on tattoos, however, they should not be anything substandard (anything that may disrespect the teaching profession or has an anti-ethical impact on students).  

Besides so many restrictions and strict rules, the college does provide some relief on special occasions. Students are allowed to wear any Indian attire on special occasions. However, western clothing, except jeans is still not allowed. Sheer or net dresses or any such attire that may harm the personality of a teacher is not allowed. Jeans with medium or long Kurti are allowed. Sarees are the teacher’s crest and therefore, trainee teachers are expected to wear them on most occasions. There are no rules for hairstyles on special occasions.
