On Thursday, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said that the state government is considering reopening schools and colleges which were shut during the second wave of Covid-19.
The chief minister said that the schools and colleges may reopen after the Durga puja vacations and initially the classes will be held on alternate days.
The statement came after a few days when a senior official at the Education Department said the state government has no plans to reopen schools amid the fear of the third wave of the pandemic.
As per the reports, the officials have confirmed that whenever school campuses reopen in West Bengal, the higher classes will be started first and then next the primary classes will be started offline.
Recently, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director-General Balram Bhargava had said that the schools must reopen and the primary section should be the first one to start as children can handle the viral infections better than adults. However, the teachers and support staff must be vaccinated before schools reopen.
