In a conversation with faculty and management at Welingkar Institute of Management (WE School), Mumbai, Shiksha tried to understand the need of having a management degree or diploma these days and why a student must pursue the same from this institute. How is it that the school adds value to a student’s life. Here is the edited excerpt of the conversation:

Q: Why do you think there is a need to do management course nowadays?

A: With businesses striving to achieve a competitive edge in their space, there is a growing need for cross-disciplinary learning. Design and management come out as one of the best partners whereby applying design principles to management, organisations are able to bring new value and innovation. Therefore, business managers today, need to learn more from the open-minded, human-centered approach that of a designer in order to be able to provide the required expertise in the Design-Management partnership.

Q: What is the eligibility criteria for admission in PGDM course at WeSchool?

A: To be eligible for admission, a candidate must have scored 50% in graduation from a recognised university, which must be completed by June 2020. Also, the score of any accepted qualifying exam is important such as CAT (2019), CMAT (2020), XAT (2020), ATMA (Feb 2020) or GMAT (2017 onwards).

WeSchool Mumbai CAT cutoff for 2019 was 75 and WeSchool Bengaluru CAT cutoff was 70. The cutoff is expected to be similar this year, too.

Q: What are the different specialisations students can choose from?

A: WeSchool understands the industry, hence all the specialisations are offered keeping industrial requirements in mind. Below is the list of specialisations offered:

  • PGDM Business Design
  • PGDM Rural
  • PGDM Retail
  • PGDM Healthcare
  • PGDM Media & Entertainment
  • PGDM Research & Business Analytics

Q: What are the upcoming important admission dates that the students must be aware of?

A: Below is the list of important dates to keep in mind:

  • Delhi GD PI dates: March 6-8, 2020
  • Mumbai GD PI dates: March 7-8 and March 16, 2020
  • Kolkata GD PI dates: March 7-8, 2020

Q: What is the application fee and course fee for two-year programme? Is there any reservation?

A: The application fee is Rs 2,500 that has to be paid online along with filling of the form.

The course fee for two-year programme is Rs 11 lakh. For students who require accommodation on campus, an additional amount of Rs 90,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh will have to be paid basis the type of room and services required. 

For Mumbai branch, the total seats intake is 600 students and for Bengaluru branch the total seats intake is 210 students. And, there is no reservation system.

Q: What are the placements trends?

A: With over 358 companies on campus, spread across varied sectors, profiles and continents, we ensure that our students are well equipped to meet every industry requirement. To do so, we have partnered with the right recruiters in order to support our students, every step of the way. These recruiters include Landmark group, Mahindra, Morgan Stanley, Pidilite, Reliance, Wipro, Maersk, Michael Page, PWC and Saint Gobain.

The average salary package offered last year was Rs 9.19 lakh and highest package was Rs 12.4 lakh.
