COVID-19 Lockdown: Mumbai University likely to postpone exams
The University of Mumbai is likely to postpone all its Undergraduate and Postgraduate examination,amid nationwide lockdown imposed in the country for the next 21 days.
In the next two to three days, the Maharashtra higher education ministry will be making a decision on postponement of exams, and accordingly, students will be informed, an official said.
Earlier, all semester examinations of the University of Mumbai (MU) which were supposed to be conducted on March 23 were cancelled until March 31 due to coronavirus outbreak.
On March 16, Uday Samant, higher and technical education minister of Maharashtra said, all higher education exam for both private and government colleges have been postponed until March 31. Before issuing the fresh date, we will review the situation again around March 26 to 27. Depending on the coronavirus situation in the state new dates will be released.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi,earlier this week had enforced a nationwide lockdown for 21 days, due to which exams are likely to get postponed further. Talking about it, an official from the MU said, we can't conduct the semester exams while there is a nationwide lockdown. With Maharashtra recording the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country, we cannot risk the safety of our students and faculty members. However, in coming days the state higher education ministry will make a decision.
MU authorities have also made an appeal to all its students, teachers and staff members to stay at home and practice safety measures.
The MU's Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) has announced the postponement of examinations of First Year (FY) and Second Year (SY) Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) program. The revised dates will be soon informed through the students on the website.
