Gear Up for Folklore University Soon !

For all those having an inclination for traditional studies and immense liking for folklore, a good news is here. The first of its kind in India, a Folklore University will soon open next month in Gotagudi in Haveri district (Northern Karnataka) and have five faculties.

As per the information given by Special Officer of University Mr. Ambalika Hiriyanna, the faculties of Folklore University will encompass oral folklore, arts and traditional science and technology. The university will have 14 departments and will be spread over 70 acre area.

Folklore University will be first of its kind in the country and 12th in the world to impart higher education in folklore studies. According to Mr. Ambalika Hiriyanna the institute would also conduct comparative studies with the folklores of other regions of the country. The university will give a platform to study the culture of Kannada-speaking people but also of other Dravidian languages.

Talking further about this interesting university, Dr Hiriyanna said the higher education would involve the fields like art, theatre, folk literature, music, handicrafts, medicine, food and drink and wood carving.

In order to sell their traditional produce for economic security, the soon to be university will take up marketing facilities for the folklore artists.
