BFA Admission Process

There are various steps related to the admission process for a Bachelor in Fine Arts (BFA), however, the eligibility criteria are the most crucial part of pursuing any course along with qualifying for the entrance exam. Bachelor in Fine Arts is an undergraduate course for candidates who wish to gain in-depth knowledge related to different types of visual arts like design, photography, sculpture, painting, graphic design and more.

This fine art course helps students enhance their skills, and creativity and challenges them to think beyond what they are possible. The BFA programme is a bit more challenging compared to the traditional academic programmes. There are some specific requirements and eligibility criteria that may vary based on the institution but in general, the eligibility criteria for this course remain the same.  

One of the major eligibility criteria for a candidate to pursue a BFA course is to score a minimum of 55 per cent to 60 per cent in their class 12 exam from a recognised board. Some institutes require specific subjects like Art, Fine Arts, and Drawings as a part of the class 12 syllabus. Candidates who come from commerce and science stream can also apply for the BFA course.

To get admission to the Bachelor in Fine Arts course candidates need to fulfil the entrance exam criteria as various institutes evaluate candidates based on their academic excellence along with their artistic ability. There are mostly two stages of the entrance exam, a practical test and a written test. BFA Admission Process – Eligibility Criteria

The first step a candidate must take is to check the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria are set by universities and colleges. If you are applying for a BSc in Agriculture and you have done your class XII in humanities, the criteria is not met. The candidate needs to have studied a particular subject to know and have a basic understanding of the subject. The student should also have secured the minimum required marks in their XII as well. Depending on the course, the colleges set the bar. The general eligibility criteria for BFA are as follows:

  • The candidate should have done their class XII from a recognised board.
  • The candidate should have secured a minimum of 55-60% in their class XII.
  • If applying for BPA, the candidate should have done a course in class XII.

BFA Applied Arts

While Fine Arts deals with creativity and innovation through a free hand, a BFA in Applied Arts helps a candidate work with materialized and commercialized such as interior design, fashion design architecture, jewellery making and much more. A BFA in Applied Arts is a vocational course which emphasizes theoretical knowledge as well as hands-on training.

BPA

A Bachelor of Performing Arts deals with inner talent. If a student knows how to dance aspires to make a career in music or is even interested in theatre, a Bachelor in Performing Arts is what you need to do. A Bachelor of Performing Arts focuses on theory as well as practical which helps a student grow, become more creative and learn new methods in their respective field.

BVA

A Bachelor of Visual Arts is a four-year undergraduate course which caters to graphics design, animation, film production, visual effects and finishing, technical arts and much more. A candidate has to be creative and must have a knack for bringing out original ideas.

Applying for a Course

Once the candidate has met the eligibility criteria and knows which course to take, the candidate is required to apply online. How to apply? Whichever college or university is offering a course BFA/BPA/BVA, the student needs to register and fill out an application form. The form can be either filled out online or can be downloaded and sent to the university. Along with the application form, candidates are required to upload their documents such as passport-size photographs, scanned copies of their signature, class X and XII mark sheets etc.  After uploading the documents, the student has to pay the application fee. Once the application process is completed, the student has successfully filled and submitted their form.

What after applying?

Generally, for a Bachelor of Fine Arts course, students are selected based on merit or scores secured in their class XII. Some universities and colleges conduct entrance exams.
