The Roland School of Music (RSM), Japan, has launched its first school in Kolkata. The batches, catering to all age groups (three onwards), will start from March 21, 2013.

Multi-talent hub Happy Hours in Vaishakhi Mall, Salt Lake, will provide its studio for RSM’s classes. The academy will offer specialist training programmes in collaboration with Roland UK. Its focus on education with entertainment and an all-round approach to learning music will be further facilitated by the use of interactive software and visual aids for toddlers.

The 25-year-old international school has developed a mixed approach to music. While imparting lessons in piano, guitar, western vocals, lucina, V-drums and keyboards, its curriculum is based on Indian preferences.

After a year of training, the students will be ready to participate and showcase their talent in RSM’s internationally acclaimed band. With the launch, the school also announced an international “Instrumental Talent Hunt Contest” to be held on March 31, 2013 at CD Park, Salt Lake, which will enable winners to get 100 per cent scholarship on fees.

Rupam Islam, lead vocalist of Fossils band, and Shigeru Kimoto, marketing manager of Roland Corporation, Japan, inaugurated the school on Thursday.
