In the aviation industry, job of aeronautical engineers, aircraft maintenance engineers, and pilots is very crucial. But the roles are very different. Aircraft maintenance engineering (AME) trains aspirant to service the aircraft. Aircraft maintenance engineers are responsible for keeping the aircraft in perfect flying conditions. They are directly or indirectly involved in the repair and maintenance of aircraft.

 

Aircraft maintenance engineering is not a degree or diploma program, but it is a training programme. After the successful completion of the training, a license is issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). During the training session, students will be taught about the service and maintenance of aircraft so as to ensure flight safety.

 

The main focus for aircraft maintenance engineer should be safety as the casual attitude can pose a danger to the lives of people on board. The job of AME includes diagnostic and mechanical duties covering maintenance, repair, trouble shooting and overhaul, in addition to performing inspection and modification on an aircraft.

 

After the successful completion of AME course you can appear and qualify for AMAeSI (Associate Membership of Aeronautical Society of India) which is fully recognized by Government of India/ State Government/ Union Public Service Commission/ GATE for MTech admission/ Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd/ Indian Airlines/ Air India/ BHEL/ DRDO/ NAL/ IAF/ Coast Guard/ Airline Industries/ Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi/ Madras Institute of Technology as equivalent to BE/ BTech (Aeronautical Engineering).

 

Eligibility:

 

If you have completed your 10+2 with 50% marks in aggregate in physics, chemistry and mathematics (PCM) or a three-year diploma course in any branch of engineering or B.Sc. degree holders after 10+2 with PCM, you are eligible for admission to AME training. This program requires rigorous training and the training cost is around Rs. 1.5 lakh. There is no gender discrimination in this program.

 

Career prospects and Remuneration:

 

On the completion of the course, one can begin their career as aircraft maintenance engineer. In this field, one can earn up to Rs 1, 00, 000 a month based on the job profile and work experience. The pay packets do get very attractive as you gain experience.
