How to create a time-table for JEE Advanced preparation
By Aman Goel
JEE Advanced requires a lot of focus and regular hard work. Studying a lot is not the key when it comes to JEE Advanced. You need to put in dedicated efforts in a smart way to gain the maximum out of the time that you put in. In order to achieve this you need to have a well-made time-table for your preparation. You can prepare a weekly or monthly time-table depending upon your style of preparation. Also, always make a time-table which you can genuinely follow else you might end up draining and demotivating yourself. Here, I will discuss in great detail how you must create a time-table for your JEE Advanced preparation.
Choose the correct set of books
The first step towards forming a table for JEE Advanced preparation is having the right books for your preparation. Only when you have the books, can you estimate the time taken to complete a chapter and so on. You must try keeping a book for theory and one for numericals so that a proper balance is maintained. You should also have a basic idea of how you would be revising things at the end and what materials you would be using for giving tests.
Explore colleges based on JEE Advanced
It happens with a lot of students that they are not able to fix the books that they want to use. This makes them refer to multiple books and they are not able to cover the chapters entirely from anywhere. To avoid this, you need to have certain books fixed in mind and you need to form your time-table according to them. Once you have decided all these things, you would be in a better position to decide about the flow of your time-table.
Make the time-table for a week first
Once you have decided the books that you would be using, the next step should be to make a relatively easier time-table for the first week. With this time-table you would be able to analyze how much you are actually able to do and you would know how to go ahead with the time-table for the week ahead. You must remember to keep the time-table less draining otherwise you would end up ruining your preparation. Make your time-table doable so that you get motivated when you complete it and once that happens you can increase the work load for the next week.
Also, while forming the time-table, you should decide the days when you would be attending school and keep in mind your coaching days too. It is always best to attend school on the days that you have coaching. This gives you entire free days, when you skip school and you don’t have coaching. On the hectic days, just focus on revising what was done in coaching and on the free days, do a lot of questions properly and strike a balance between theory and numericals. Remember to keep a day for revision and giving tests every 2 weeks so that you get to see how well you are able to retain what you are studying. There is no use of cramming things without understanding them properly and so, giving tests in a regular way is important.
Setting time-table for the last few months of JEE Advanced preparation
The last few months are the most crucial for JEE Advanced as they can either make or break your JEE score. You need to be particularly careful while making the time-table for these last few months. You need to revise all that you have previously learnt and then do tests too. You must take out time to analyze each and every mock test that you do because if you do them without proper analysis, you would never improve and the tests would simply go waste. Thus, after every mock test, mark out the chapters where you need to work more and adjust them in your time-table accordingly. In the month of February make sure to do at least 1 mock in a week. Then you can complete the left over syllabus and the revision according to the analysis in the left of the week. You must start doing two mock tests every week up to the mid of March and then for a week you can do them every second day. In the last week, don’t over burden yourself. You can do a couple of easy mock tests in the last week to gain confidence for the final exam.
Apart from this, remember to keep the last month very light. This is a must else you would totally get tensed and you might panic a lot before the exam. Do everything that would make you calm in the last week. Don’t start any new topics in the last few weeks. Your time-table should solely focus on revision and mock tests in the month of March. Remember to go through the notes of topics which are more rote learning based regularly in the last month.
Tips for creating a time-table for JEE Advanced preparation
Here are a few tips that will help you in preparing the best time-table for your JEE Advanced preparation:
- Keep the time-table such that you don’t have to sit for stretches of more than 3 hours for a particular subject. Take breaks after each session of 3 hours.
- Don’t do just one subject throughout the day. Aim to do at least two subject on a daily basis.
- Keep a day per week for revision and completing the back logs.
- You can take breaks whenever you feel very pressurized. This will help you relax and keep calm.
- Don’t create a time-table which over burdens you. Maintain a decent pace throughout the year so that you don’t have to rush at the end moment.
Make the time-table yourself. The best time-table for you would be the one that you would make for yourself. Don’t follow your friends in this aspect. You can definitely take the suggestions from your teachers but make the time-table to suit yourself.
