Q. Congrats on your achievement. So, how do you feel being the 3rd Topper of JEE Advanced 2017? Did you expect it?
It feels very good. It’s a dream come true for me. I never imagined that I would get an AIR 3 in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced. My parents too are extremely happy. We were checking the results together and they were surprised that I got the 3rd rank in the exam.
I never expected to be one of the one of the toppers. Never.
Q. . Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in? What was XII board marks?
I am a CBSE board student and have studied from Hope Hall Foundation School. I secured 97.8% in Class XII board exams.
Q. What is your overall score in JEE Advanced 2017?
My overall score in JEE Advanced 2017 was 331 out of 366.
Q. How long have you been preparing? And what was your study plan like for JEE Advanced 2017? What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for the exam?
I had been preparing for two years – Class 11th and 12th. My study plan for JEE Advanced 2017 included 10 hours of study including coaching and self-study. I focused on solving more problems and test papers.
I think the minimum time frame required depends from person to person but according to me a minimum of two years(Class 11th and 12th) is definitely required.
Q. How was the preparation for JEE Advanced different from JEE Main?
It’s almost the same expect for the fact that JEE Main had some additional topics that was not there in JEE Advanced. But, JEE Advanced is more difficult than JEE Mains. Also, the exam format of JEE Advanced is different from JEE Mains.

Yes, I did take coaching from FIITJEE. According to me, coaching is required. If you are an extra-ordinary student, you might not need it. But for ordinary or above average students coaching is required.
Q. Did you take up mock tests and sample papers? Do you think to practicing from previous year question papers help and how?
Yes. Mock tests, sample papers and previous year question papers are the most important parts of one’s preparation. This is because at the end of the day, you have to solve a three hour paper and these things help you a lot in practicing.
Q. Any important books you would like to suggest for future aspirants?
I would say that for Chemistry, one should study Chemistry very thoroughly. For Maths and Physics, NCERT is not that great. So, for these two subjects, students need to switch to other books available in the market or the books that one’s coaching institute suggests.

Q. Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decide to study engineering?
In school, my friends and I were always interested in Computer Science. And IITs are the best to pursue this subject. That’s why I chose engineering over other streams.
