JEE Main 2016 Rank Card

JEE Main 2016 ranks got declared today on June 23, 2016 on the official website of JEE Main. Earlier the JEE Main 2016 ranks were going to be declared on or before June 30, 2016, however, according to the official website of JOSAA 2016, the date of rank declaration was June 23.

JEE Main 2016 scores were announced on April 27, 2016, now with the declaration of JEE Main ranks, candidates will be able to attend the counselling process by JOSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) 2016 from June 24 onwards.

The rank card of JEE Main 2016 has been issued by CBSE, which is the exam conducting authority of the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam. Candidates can get following details in their rank cards- JEE Main score, All India Rank (AIR), composite score, normalized score, personal details, and category.

To understand to the important elements of JEE Main rank card, candidates can take a look at the ten essential fields of JEE Main 2016 rank card below:

1. Candidate’s Roll Number: JEE Main roll number is allotted to each candidate by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to give them a unique identity.

2. Personal Details: This includes candidate’s name, mother’s name, and father’s name. All these details are same as recorded in the class 10th or 12th mark sheet.

3. Category & Sub Category: This reflects the category of candidates to which they belong such as General, SC (Scheduled Castes), ST (Scheduled Tribes), and OBC (Other Backward Classes). The sub-category is usually filled be candidates with disabilities i.e. PwD (Persons with Disabilities).

4. State Code of Eligibility & Nationality: This displays the code of the state from where the candidate has passed his/her class 12th. Example: (02) ANDHRA PRADESH for those who have completed their 10 + 2 from Andhra Pradesh.

Nationality: This field shows the status of a candidate belonging to any particular nation by origin, birth, or naturalization. Candidates usually selects either of the following- Indian, OCI (Overseas Citizen of India), PIO (Person of Indian Origin, and Foreign (other than OCI/PIO).

5. Percentile Score in Qualifying Examination: This displays the score of candidates, calculated on the basis of class 12th marks and qualifying examination result. The overall percentile score of candidates are calculated using the below mentioned formula-

6. All India Percentile Score in JEE Main 2016: This is the score of candidates appearing for JEE Main on All India basis. The same is calculated on merit and belongs to the corresponding JEE Main score.

7. JEE Main score subject wise: It reflects the individual scores of candidates in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for 120 marks each. So, the candidate’s total score is calculated out of 360 (120*3).

8. Qualifying Examination Normalized Score: The normalized score is actually the average of JEE Main aggregate marks corresponding to percentile at the All India level (B1) and the board from where the candidate had appeared in class 12 (B2). Only the 40% of normalized score is taken into consideration to calculate JEE Main rank derivation.

The normalized board score is calculated as b= 0.5 * (B1 + B2)

9. Composite Score: Composite score is usually calculated after combining 60% of JEE Main score (a) and 40% of the normalized score (b). See below for example- 

Composite Score=   0.5 X 100 + 0.3 X 101.50 = 50 + 30.45 = 80.45

10. Common Rank List (CRL) Rank: This is nothing but the All India Rank for JEE Main. The same is calculated by putting the composite scores of all candidates in ascending order. 

JEE Main 2016 was conducted on three different days i.e. on April 3, 9, & 10, across various test centres all over India. The exam was conducted in two parts- offline and online, while the offline paper was held on April 3, 2016, the online exam was conducted on April 9 & 10, 2016.
