Which NIT and branch is best for you?
There are 31 NITs in our country and each one is unique and different in its own way. They vary in their infrastructure, campus life, academics, courses and many other parameters. You need to know about all these parameters in the top NITs so that you can make an informed choice. MHRD approved NIRF rankings also give a slight idea of the relative positions of the various NITs. Here is the general trend of ranking of the top NITs:
- National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli: This is so far the best NIT and provides a really good exposure to its students. The cut-off ranks for admission to NIT Tiruchirappalli are really low and you need to get excellent marks in JEE Mains to get into it. Popularly it is also known as NIT Trichy and for top branches like CSE and ECE you need to have an under 2500 rank to get through. The campus life, placements and exposure is really good and the good student quality will further help you in going ahead.
- National Institute of Technology, Warangal: This is the NIT with a reputation just like NIT Trichy. It ranks second among all the NITs. The best branches here too are CSE and ECE. Apart from that mechanical is also quite good in this college in terms of the faculty and student quality. The placements might not be great for mechanical but the overall branch is good. CSE and ECE have really good placements as well. You need a rank of under 2500 roughly to get into CSE at NIT Warangal and around under 5000 for ECE. For mechanical and EEE a rank under 7000 is safe to get through.
- NIT Surathkal, Karnataka: The best part about this institute is that it keeps remedial classes too for students who are not very proficient in English and need skill training. It focuses on the overall development of its students in a very good way. Apart from that, the campus is very beautiful and it is a top-notch institute of the country. The top branches here are CSE, IT ECE and EEE in general. IT is an addition here when compared to the above three colleges which don’t have the branch. IT is very popular among students and a good choice after CSE. For getting CSE you need to have an under 3000 rank and for IT and ECE a rank under 5000 would be safe to get through. For EEE a rank under roughly 7000 works. IT and ECE are equally chosen by students and have a good overall impact in this college.
- Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad: This one is a really big college and has a lot of branches as compared to other NITs. CSE and IT are the most popular branches here and after that ECE and EEE follow. A number of students join here and aim for branch change and get successful in the same. CSE can be secured with a rank under 4000 and IT under 6000. The college is famous for its diversity and variety. The student life is very lively and a good culture is present in the college.
- NIT Rourkela, Odisha: The institute offers a lot of facilities to its students and these help them develop nicely overall. The choice of courses is very vast here too just like MNNIT. However, CSE and ECE continue to remain the popular choices. For CSE an under 7000 rank is needed whereas for ECE a rank under 8500 works in general.
From the above discussion it is evident that CSE, IT, ECE and EEE continue to remain the top choices of students in the top NITs.
