Banks to step into colleges for hiring
Public sector banks are finally turning to colleges for hiring through the campus placement route. It's a significant development as Indian banks comprise a major sector in the economy employing over a million individuals.
This year, Madras University saw 60 per cent of placements from banks. University authorities observed that despite students being well-trained to handle banking operations, no banks visited the campus for recruitment earlier. But, after the banking sector opened its wings to help students by offering mentorship programmes, there's a noticeable spurt in recruitments.
The students recruited from this university have been offered positions of managers and assistant managers. Their average salary would range from 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
Relationship management, information technology, and customer retention will be the main focus areas for the banks going forward, which will take care of employment opportunities for those aspiring for a banking career. Experts say...
Talking about bank recruitments, the Reserve Bank of India too has started inviting applications for recruitment. Indian students who meet the eligibility criteria concerning age, educational qualification, reservation (where applicable) and zone of recruitment, etc can apply.
