Are you interested in subjects like Economics, Accounts, Commerce and Business Studies? For the first time in India, BSE International Finance Olympiad (BIFO) is being launched to test and promote financial literacy among students of Class IX to Class XII. Students from all streams studying in any school in India can participate in the competition.

In an effort to catch them young, BSE Institute Ltd (BIL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Ltd, has come up with BSE International Finance Olympiad (BIFO) for school students. It’s a joint effort with Eduheal Foundation (EHF) to create awareness in students as well as encourage them to explore, discover and learn more about the financial world.

The contest will be held at three levels:

  • Level  1 (City/State): This will be organised at the school-level, where schools may nominate three students each from Class IX, Class X, Class XI, and Class XII. They may conduct intra-school quiz to facilitate selection of students.
  • Level  2 (National): EHF will organise an online exam for nominated students at its centers across India in the first week of January, 2013. Syllabus of the exam will cover CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, and NCF (National Curriculum Framework). The exam will be conducted in English. 50% of questions will be from financial literacy, general economics and aptitude while remaining 50% will be from subjects being studied by students.

At this level, 48 students will be selected for the final quiz round at BSE Convention Centre, Mumbai on January 18, 2013, to be followed by the prize distribution ceremony.

Top three students from Class IX, Class X, Class XI, and Class XII will win a cash award of Rs 10,000 each.

Two teachers and one principal will also be selected from each of the regions – North, South, East and West. They will also be invited to attend the final quiz round and the prize distribution ceremony. Teachers will win a cash award of Rs 15,000 each while the principals will receive a cash award of Rs 25,000 each.

  • Level 3 (Finals): In the finals, 12 students will be selected as the national winners – Top three students each from Class IX to Class XII.

Registration deadline for the exam is December 15, 2012.
