NSE and IIM Shillong to offer financial markets program

Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong is set to become the first IIM to offer a 2-year post graduate programme in financial markets. IIM Shillong is launching the new PGP-FM in collaboration with National Stock Exchange (NSE).

This initiative will help to strengthen the government's efforts on developing the required infrastructure and creating good job opportunities in the north east. Enhancing academic knowledge and technical skills is the main focus of this initiative which in turn will contribute towards the progress of the region.

MD & CEO of NSE, Ravi Narain told Economic Times, that this two year post graduate program is expected to sharpen the investment and trading skills of students and working professionals, and make them more employable.

The collaboration will help in accelerating the development of the financial sector and the growth of the economy, stated IIM Shillong director Ashoke K Dutta. Besides launching the PGP-FM, there are plans to offer advanced level certifications and management development programmes (MDPs) in financial markets.

Students of the PGP-FM program would gain from a global perspective as they get to visit international markets as part of this program. Simulated market software will be especially developed by NSE, through which students would be able to replicate market conditions and develop trading, investment and portfolio management skills.

All new programmes will be a combination of general management subjects and highly specialised subjects in financial markets such as financial valuation and modeling, equity research, technical analysis, derivatives trading strategies and financial engineering.

Earlier NSE has tied up with other universities and prestigious institutes as well including Punjabi University at Patiala, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University at Delhi and the Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak. (Read more)
