Cochin International Airport to inaugurate Aviation Security Training Institute in Feb

As per an official notification issued by Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), the airport is all set to inaugurate the Aviation Security Training Institute (ASTI) on February 1, 2014. CIAL set up the ASTI on directives issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) which insisted on all major airports in the country to offer security training to its officials.

ASTI is expected to be inaugurated in February 2014 by K.C. Venugopal, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation.

As per senior officials of CIAL, the ASTI was established on a budget of two crore rupees and will be headed by the airport’s chief security officer, who will be helped in this task by five other Bureau of Civil Aviation Security certified instructors.

The institute is said to be spread over two classrooms and contains state-of-the-art facilities such as LCD projectors, an explosive model room and 12 X-ray simulators. ASTI also houses a library which contains CDs of International Civil Aviation Organisation’s training modules and books on aviation security subjects along with other journals and literature.

As per the current plan, employees as well as management personnel from Calicut, Mangalore, Trichy, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore, Madurai and those working at the proposed international airport at Kannur will be trained at ASTI, Kochi.
