These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.

Who would have thought that in this rat race of the world everything would come to a pause for a little time? This is all due to COVID 19, a deadly virus that has created a pandemic all over the world. Due to this virus, there has been lockdown in India for 21 days. Last year students were supposed to make some amazing memories in the college but unfortunately, they got arrested in their homes taking online lectures from their respective teachers. This is all due to the virus.

The colleges are taking a great initiative by taking online classes on the Zoom app for students so that they can complete their courses on time. It’s good that teachers are taking initiative but I don't think so that online classes are useful because it requires a good internet connection and its quite expensive and every student cannot afford it.

Another disadvantage is that the instructors have to go under proper training to know how the app works. It requires a lot of time and then it adds to the additional cost of the organization. It's expensive and time-consuming and hence in the class of 45 mins, it takes around 10-15 minutes to log in or and then wait for every student to join the class. Then it takes another 10 mins for the attendance. So around 20-25 mins are wasted in doing all these activities in the class of 45 mins.

Now in the class of 20 mins, we can study only for 15 mins and hence it is not fruitful.

There are many positive aspects also such as flexibility and social distancing. Students can log in from anywhere at any time from any place can start learning. This also helps in reducing travel costs. Students are also busy in making their report files for the end term examination.

Different teachers have been allocated to different groups of students so that they can report back to their mentors. Mentors are keeping records of each student regarding the completion of the report file. Teachers are also showing full support to their students. They help the students as and when required. Students have to submit their reports under the given deadline.

The college is providing various assignments to the students so that they can get busy. Students have to submit 4-5 assignments every week and according to that, they are marked. In my opinion, college is doing a great task at their level. The rest is in the hand of the students whether they want to study or not.
