IIBM is working towards increasing the effectiveness and frequency of the online classes: Hemanth

These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com

Are they sufficient to cover the designated syllabus?

There is a huge difference in the online class and offline class. In an offline class, teachers directly descriptively teach the students. Honestly, I don’t face any major change, as earlier in offline classes, I often used to refer to many sites and videos whenever I used to face any issue to understand a particular topic. I mainly concentrate on gathering practical knowledge than the theoretical aspect. I learn by adopting many measures and getting knowledge about the current scenario. Although, I am attending online classes regularly, but I am still following my previous way of learning only.

In our college, attending the online classes only is not sufficient as they are not covering the entire syllabus or topics in these classes. Some of the teachers are teaching for around 30 minutes a day and the rest of them simply explain the topics and share YouTube links for learning and they follow UGC instructions. There are some of the practical subjects that the teachers are not being able to teach properly. So, I am following my strategy for practical as well to ensure my studies are not impacted much.

Are you projects or assignments to work on from home? What is the number of online submissions required to take place?

Yes, I am doing the assignments and projects at home. All the assignments that are given to us by the teacher are supposed to be submitted within the prescribed timeline and shared with the teachers through Google Drive. Moreover, I have also prepared and shared many PowerPoint Presentations through G-mail.

There are a total of around 20 projects and assignments that need to be submitted. There are a minimum of two projects in a subject.

How is the college making up for any lab/practical work? If at all?

The college is taking some of the steps for lab programme. For BBA students there are no such labs. However, industrial visit is conducted which is not possible in the present scenario as we all are taking online classes.

In our college, there is no such special action taken for lab-related activities.

Anything else the college is doing in these times that is noteworthy that you would like to draw attention to?

As mandated by the university and the government, all the colleges are closed till further notice. Only some of the important faculty members, principal, deans, and registrar are visiting the college campus for some work as required and are sharing the updates with the students accordingly. They are also planning for increasing the effectiveness and frequency of the online classes. Right now, they are focussing mainly on conducting the exams. Apart from this, the college has also collected money for the PM Relief Fund and collected and distributed the essentials to the people in need.
