The Government of India offers three types of Yoga courses: bachelor's degree courses, master's degree courses and Certification courses. In this article, we will only discuss certification courses. A Yoga Certification course by Government of India refers to a short-term course in Yoga approved by the government. Foundation Course in Yoga Science for Wellness (FCYscW) (One Month Course)
The Foundation Course in Yoga Science for Wellness (FCYScW) is a one-month (50-hour) part-time course. The lessons are held 5 days a week for 2 hours per day, with preference given to the morning and evening hours (7 - 9 AM and 4 - 6 PM & 6 - 8 PM). However, the timings are subject to change at the Institute's discretion.
Eligibility
- Any person with a Class 10 degree can enrol in the Foundation Course in Yoga Science for Wellness.
Foundation Course in Yoga Science for Wellness (FCYScW) at MDNIY
This is a part-time course offered by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) on behalf of the Ministry of Ayush India. The duration of this course is 50 hours (36 hours of practical training in Yoga, 1 hour of the inaugural session, 1 hour of the vedictory session, and 12 hours of lectures).
Eligibility
- All individuals who have passed Class 12 are eligible for Foundation Course in Yoga Science for Wellness.

Certificate Course in Yoga for Wellness Instructor (CCYWI)
The programme is structured to equip participants with the understanding, abilities, and methods of Yoga, equipping them to become certified Yoga Professionals capable of instructing Yoga for health benefits.
Additionally, the course's goal is to offer traditional and scientific Yoga instruction, preparing individuals to become Wellness Yoga Instructors who promote overall well-being. The curriculum emphasises fundamental insights into Yoga, its foundations, and its relevance to daily wellness practises. The primary aim is to cultivate skilled Yoga trainers who can effectively teach Yoga and promote well-being through education and training.
Eligibility
- The candidate must have completed the tenth grade (Class 10) from a recognised board or its equivalent.
- Foundation Course in Yoga Science for Wellness (50 hrs.) from MDNIY or equivalent from any Central/State University, Yoga Institutions recognised or accredited by Yoga Certification Board, Ministry of Ayush, or Yoga professionals with at least 5 years of active teaching and training in Yoga with valid documentations.
- Candidates must be physically fit. No one with a chronic illness is permitted to enrol in the course.

The course is aimed to provide participants with the information, skills, and practises of Yoga in order for them to become institutionally trained proficient Yoga Professionals and to teach Common Yoga Protocol for Wellbeing.
Furthermore, the course's goal is to provide classical, scientific Yoga education and training, as well as to develop Protocol Yoga instructors for the promotion of Yoga.
Eligibility
- To enrol in the Certificate Course in Yoga for Wellness Instructor, candidates should have passed 10+2 from a recognised board.
- Foundation Course in Yoga Science for Wellness (50 hours) from the Ministry of Ayush at Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga or any central or state university or recognised institution with a minimum experience of 5 years in Yoga.
- The person who wants to enrol in this course needs to be medically fit or free from all types of chronic illness.
Diploma in Yoga Science (D.Y. Sc.)
This is a full-time and regular Yoga course that aims to provide learners with the Yoga skills and knowledge to become professional Yoga instructors. It is a highly career oriented course. The duration of D.Y. Sc. is 1 year (2 semesters).
Eligibility
- A graduation degree with 50% marks in any discipline from a recognised Indian or international university (for General category candidates)
- A graduation degree with 45% marks in any discipline from a recognised Indian or international university (for SC/ST/OBC category candidates)
Diploma in Sports Coaching - Yogasana (D.S.C) for Graduates (One-Year Duration & One Month Internship)
This Yoga course will help you learn Yoga and other health and fitness techniques to become a Yogasana sports coach (a fitness instructor for sportspeople that teaches Yoga). The objectives of this course are the following:
- To encourage yoga asana practise in order to enhance physical, mental, social, and spiritual welfare.
- To introduce the procedures, key elements, and judging for the yogasana competition.
- to encourage the player's development of individuality.
- to publicise yoga as a sport.
- to become familiar with the distinction between qualitative and quantitative study of sports motions.
Eligibility
- A graduation degree with a minimum of 50% marks
- Eligibility criteria for D.S.C in Wellness for Yoga Instructor, or
- Any graduate degree with at least a 50% marks and a Certificate Course in Yoga for Wellness Instructor (CCYWI) from MDNIY / Yoga Certification Board (YCB) Certified Level - II (Yoga Wellness Instructor) is required to enrol.
- Alternatively, any graduate degree with at least a 50% grade point average and a Certificate Course in Yoga Therapy Assistant (CCYTA) is required to join through lateral entry in the second semester.
Diploma in Yoga Therapy (DYT)
During this programme, the student will learn about the principles of yoga therapy for the treatment and prevention of a variety of psychosomatic and lifestyle-related illnesses.
The goal of this course is to give students therapeutic abilities for using conventional medical knowledge for the general public and overall personality development. The duration of DYT is one year.
Eligibility
- A graduate degree in yoga with 50% marks, any graduate degree with a 50% grade point average, and a Certificate Course in Yoga for Wellness Instructor (CCYWI) from MDNIY / YCB Certified Level- II (Yoga Wellness Instructor), or
- A candidate with any degree with 50% marks and the Certificate Course for Yoga Therapy Assistant (CCYTA) can join through lateral entry (2nd Semester).
Certificate Course In Yoga Therapy Assistant (CCYTA)
This course (CCYTA) will explain Yoga therapy as a Holistic living science. The student will learn about the concepts of Yoga therapy for the treatment and prevention of different psychosomatic and lifestyle-related disorders during the course. This course aims to teach students therapeutic techniques for using traditional medical knowledge for the general public and comprehensive personality development. The duration of CCYWI is 6 months.
Eligibility
- Candidates should have passed Class 10+2 from a recognised state or central board
- Certificate course in Yoga for Wellness Instructor (CCYWI) is required to enrol in CCYTA.
Certificate Course in Yoga Science for Special Interest Group
This course is only for personnel of Para-Military. It aims to help them reduce their work stress and improve their health through Yoga practices. The duration of this course is of 4 months. The Certificate Course in Yoga Science for Special Interest Group is offered by MDNIY.
Eligibility
- There are no specific eligibility criteria for this course. All members of Para-military forces can enrol in it.
