In a bid to emphasize the importance of English education and its role in shaping a brighter future for students, the state CM Ashok Gehlot announced the conversion of 131 government schools in Rajasthan to English medium. At present, these schools offer education in Hindi language.

State CM emphasized the importance of education and its role in shaping a brighter future for the students. “We have provided social security with this consideration, and people welcome it. We have made a guarantee to offer English language education,” “I now understand that English is an international language and that it dominates the internet. If students learn it, they will have a bright future,” he added.

How did people react?

According to Rajendra Dayma, Principal, Government Upper Primary School, Sanganer, Jaipur, “We have been trying to convert our school to English medium for the last two years, however, the parents and students alike are revolting and not allowing the conversion. They have studied in Hindi till now and thus, fear the introduction of new language.”

Om Prakash Vijay, Chief Block Education Officer, Jaipur shared that the decision has been welcomed by parents and students alike. “We are introducing the language in a phased manner at the pre-primary, primary, middle, secondary, and senior secondary levels, for a smooth transition. We all understand that the English language is the need of the hour to have a good career and bright future,” he said.

Cities where government schools in Rajasthan will experience change

With this announcement, 42 schools of primary level, 56 of upper primary level, and 33 of higher secondary level in the state will be converted into English medium schools. These include 8 girls' schools as well.

The schools include 27 from Jaipur, 15 from Alwar, 13 from Baran, 12 from Jodhpur, 10 each from Barmer and Jhunjhunu, 7 each from Bhilwara and Karauli, 6 each from Dausa and Dungarpur, 5 from Nagaur, 4 from Bharatpur, 3 schools of Ajmer, 2 of Jalore and 1 school each of Kota, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh and Churu.

Along with this, the Rajasthan Chief Minister also announced that the state will provide laptops or tablets for government college students.
