ISC Board Exam 2024 Prep Tips by Daksha Shrestha Singh
Daksha Shrestha Singh, ISC Topper with 97.25%, from St. Joseph's Convent High School, Bankipore, shared some extremely important aspects about her ISC board exam preparation. Check out some important excerpts below:
Q: What are the challenges you faced during ISC preparation?
A: It was definitely really challenging to balance my CUET UG preparation, which was based on NCERT syllabus while simultaneously preparing for ISC boards. Also, the pattern of the question paper was changed and made much more objective, and we were not used to solving MCQs and other such short questions.
Q: What was your ISC preparation strategy to score above 95%?
A: I made it a point to stop thinking about competitive exam preparation when the board exams started approaching. I focused solely on the ISC syllabus and when only a few days were left for the exam, I would only solve previous year question papers in a timed manner, to simulate the actual exam experience.
Q: Which stream did you choose? How did you choose your stream? Did your ICSE score play any role in choosing the stream, or you were always clear about the same?
A: I chose arts with history, political science, economics, english and hindi. I was always more or less sure that I wanted to pursue the humanities, and I chose this stream after getting 97% in my ICSE board exams. I think this decision should depend more on one's aptitude than anything else.
Q: What was your ISC board exam preparation Routine?
A: This is a very subjective thing, and it varies according to everyone's attention span. I personally found it important to take 15 minute breaks after studying for 1 and a half to 2 hours. Of course, a longer break after lunchtime was really important to me, so that I could talk to my friends and let off some steam and maybe take a short nap. Then, I would start studying again from the early evening and would go on until after dinner.
Daksha shared that she did not take any coaching for ISC board exam preparation. She further added that English Literature was and is her favourite subject. “In fact, studying literature never even felt burdensome,” she added.
Q: What was your strategy to prepare for the subjects you didn’t like the most?
A: That is always extremely difficult, I won't lie. I found economics slightly more difficult than the other subjects, so I practiced the numericals and graphs every day. As for the theory, it was pretty similar to the theory of other subjects. It is a tough process, but the results will be worth it after the hard work.
Q: Please share some tips for students prepping up to appear in ISC Board Exams 2024
A: I would advise the students to take board exams seriously, even if they have to prepare for competitive examinations. Board exam results always remain with you. Also, while you still have time, make sure to go through your course and clarify any doubts you find, otherwise you may end up regretting it while writing your exam. Time management is also really important, so try to decide how much time you can afford to spend on each question and do your best to stick to it.
Q: Can you share some tips for students deciding streams for higher studies?
A: It is always best to go for the course you are truly interested in. There is competition in every field and every course has its own difficulties and benefits. It really depends on what you love to study. Also, have a plan as to what you wish to do with the degree and how you would like to utilise your interest in the subject later. This will prevent you from regretting your choice later on.
