Gujarat Board exams first day: Five FIRs for 15 cases of illegal means

On the first day of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) exams, five FIRs were lodged in connection with 15 cases of unfair means. Out of these, there were three fake cases, two reported from Junagadh and one from Rajkot. There was also one mobile phone case each from Thangadh in Surendranagr and Ahmedabad (rural). Apart from this, the Junagadh police have arrested three men with 44 sham hall tickets. The police team exposed a purported racket of fielding dummy candidates in exams.

Gujarat Board commenced the facility of online hall tickets this year wherein students could download their hall tickets. After downloading the hall ticket, it was meant to be signed by the student and certified by signatures of the class teachers and the school principal. The hall ticket also needed to have the school stamp along with the submission of the student’s photo. The other cases of cheating were reported from Junagadh (2) and one each from Surat, Kheda, Bharuch, Junagadh, Ahmedabad (rural), Ahmedabad city, Anand, Surendranagar, and Gir Somnath.

On Thursday, out of an overall 8,57,250 registered candidates, 8,35,809 candidates of Class 10 appeared for their first language exams in the morning session. Likewise, 723 out of 728 Class 10 general stream candidates appeared for their exams. In the afternoon, 1,39,212 Class 12 science stream candidates appeared for their physics exams, of a total 1,40,708 candidates. Likewise, 2,23,499 Class 12 general stream candidates appeared for their exams, out of an overall 2,26,557 candidates.
