Amid the coronavirus lockdown, the Odisha Government is planning to minimize its impact on studies. The state government is envisaging to introduce online education for Odisha class 10 students of its government schools. According to a PTI news, private educational institutes have already started online classes. However, the same could not be managed for government schools for the lack of infrastructure. Samir Ranjan Dash, the state school and mass education minister, informed that initially online classes will be offered to those students who are being promoted to class 10 this year. Students have been recommended to prepare for digital lessons.

In the state, the lockdown has been extended till April 30. The educational institutes have been told to remain shut till June 17. For online studies, Odisha board students having a laptop or desktop with internet connectivity have been told to download the DIKSHA app. For students who are being promoted to class 10, teachers will also get instructions on holding classes online. DIKSHA is a national platform by means of which students, teachers, and parents can interact with each other regarding all school activities. The teachers can use this platform to access and create high-quality teaching, learning and assessment resources in different subjects.

Once the lockdown period is over, the government would work on a comprehensive plan for the promotion of online education. In the future, the plan would help all related persons to deal with similar situations. In the meantime, the delivery of textbooks which was to begin in the first week of April has been delayed on account of the lockdown. Books are available with block-level officials.
