The Meghalaya Education Department has said that it will discuss with the Health Ministry regarding the reopening of schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in the state.
This was decided in a meeting held between the education department and different stakeholders of schools and colleges. During the meeting, the discussion was also made regarding school fees, hostel fees, declaration of the MBOSE SSLC 2020 results, and conducting the remaining papers of MBOSE HSSLC 2020 results.
"Decisions have been taken but these are internal as of now because we still have to discuss with the health department and also at the higher level,” said DP Wahlang, Principal Secretary, Education Department.
While talking about the issue of school fees, Wahlang said that more or less everyone has agreed to waive off fees for the period during the lockdown period for those who are impacted by it. If the parent is a daily labourer and has not been able to go to work (during the lockdown period) then they won’t have to pay fees.
When asked who will assess such students, the Principal Secretary said that the managing committees have the statistics and also data on the parent’s income and they will have to take a call and issue a directive in due course of time.
About the evaluation process he said, the work has already started for Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBOSE) Class 10 answer sheet and it is expected to be announced by end of May mostly.
Wahlang also informed that the four papers for MBOSE Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) still have to be conducted.
“That will be done in the month of May only provided there is a small caveat that, if the lockdown is not extended,” the Principal Secretary said.
Therefore, Wahlang said that there is nothing final as of now because no one is sure about the lockdown.
