Indian case studies in demand by Harvard
Harvard Business School (HBS) is looking to build its base of Indian case studies. Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B), the only Institute from India that supplies case studies to Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) India, signed an agreement last year to provide around 24 case studies to HBP every year, reported Business Standard.
HBS has done 90 Indian case studies till date. These cases are taught at business schools around the world including HarvardBusinessSchool (MBA and Executive Education). Reportedly, US B-schools have the highest demand for case studies from emerging markets like India to enrich their content.
HBS opened its India Research Centre in Mumbai, five years back. In this period around 15 Indian case studies have been published each year. The need for developing global content is felt by business schools offering executive education only in the last decade. Today’s global macroeconomic scenario, involving business across emerging economies, requires an understanding of international business environment.
IIM-B faculty writing the new cases was imparted expert tips on how to style the case, etc during a one-year hand-holding process by Harvard. The cases are distributed by HBP to B-schools and corporates globally, including several leading B-schools in India which use the cases extensively in their curriculum. Read more
Moreover, HBS is set to expand its portfolio of executive education to offer seven programmes in India, tweaked to cater to the Indian executives. The teaching methodology aims to address the local context using Indian examples, while maintaining a desirable mix of India-centric cases and global case studies. The institute launched its executive education in India in 2006-07 with few programmes.
