Mystory@B Dinesh: How I chose my course and college
I took up management studies to enhance my personality and for my better professional prospects. It is the best platform to develop good network and also offers wide variety of career opportunities.
After I took my Class X exam, I pursued diploma courses in Computer Science during the holidays. This helped me enrich my knowledge in Computers. After that, I successfully completed my Class XII with good percentage. I also underwent a vocational training in Typewriting and C Programming during my holidays.
How I chose my course
Meanwhile, my interest in engineering grew stronger. I would admire new technologies on a daily basis and would draw inspiration from them. I joined Manakula Vinaynagar Institute of Technology (MVIT) in Pondicherry. I had always liked to gather knowledge about mobile technologies, so I joined electronics and communication engineering. During the four years of my course, I participated in each and every competition. I was also awarded with the ‘Best Project’ award for a project based on a fully innovative technology that can be used in our daily life. After the completion of engineering, I got placed in a reputed company through campus placement but I wanted to continue my studies.

So, I decided to prepare for the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) and got 78% which is a good percentage.
How I chose my college
I had initially travelled to Bangalore to search for B-Schools where I could take admission after my MAT. Vacancies existed only in Northern India but I was keen on securing admission only in and around Pondicherry or Chennai because of my family situation. I had liked the environment of Sathyabhama University when I had visited the campus for the first time and secured admission there. I got a dual degree with specialisation in HR and Operations. I had also applied to Pondicherry University for an MBA programme but I was getting an option of specializing in HR and Tourism. This was not as good an option as HR and Operations. So I went ahead with Sathyabama.
Speaking of the course syllabus in Sathyabhama, it was entirely different from that of other universities. Summer internships, CEO-sessions, seminars, all these form a mandatory part of the programme. I had also taken up internships with the Airport Authority of India as an operational intern and with Whirlpool as an HR Trainee. These experiences gave me good knowledge on both the specializations and I feel, will definitely help me choosing the right specialisation for my career.
What my college taught me
I have classes for eight hours every day, five days a week. I also have lots of additional work to do after college. Since I also happen to be the Campus Representative for Shiksha, I have to devote enough time on Shiksha to answer questions from students and that too, as soon as possible.
At Sathyabama, there are many seminar hours allotted to Management students every week. I attend a lot of practical sessions and participate in a lot of programmes and events and this had a good effect on my confidence levels. My stage fear has gradually reduced over time and I have become bold. In my free time, I like to surf the Internet. I have also participated in symposiums conducted by other colleges and universities across Chennai. Compared to other universities, Sathyabhama offers a great atmosphere. As a result of this, in my final semester campus drive, I was selected as an HR recruiter in a reputed company. “No Man is Rich Enough to Buy Back his Past” so seize every opportunity that comes your way, stop worrying about your past and at the right time, you will surely shine.
