Mystory@Bala Krishna Tolasi: How I made the most of my college years
I completed my Master in Business Administration and went on to emerge as the University Topper and a Gold Medalist.
My college days were filled with rigorous academic activities and our professors helped us in every way possible. Though they taught us how to use technology, we never got a chance to learn to effectively use the Internet. We were mostly trained the traditional way, without any kind of exposure to the real time market and world. We never knew what was happening outside and there was never a connectivity between internal classes and external exponential growth of the industry and world. We were all moving as a good team but, we all knew that we needed something more. We were not able to understand, analyze and comprehend what exactly was needed to learn and gain from the outside world.
The combination of various integrated technologies, especially the introduction of smart phones help students to think & venture beyond their regular coursework. As part of our course, we received little exposure to extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Nevertheless, we won prizes in most activities we participated in. We faced lots of challenges in various aspects of education and life on a whole, which made us understand the importance of team work. We were successful in developing excellent team spirit in our batch. We had minimalistic aspirations to achieve in life and were able to program ourselves whenever the situation demanded, so as to fit in this corporate world. Nowadays, laptops/smartphones are common and are widely used by young college going students. We as students, never had an opportunity to use smart devices for the world that is digitally wired now, was not so developed during then. Still, we studied a lot of books and magazines on technology as books back then, were the biggest source of knowledge.
Today, in this fast paced world, instead of waiting for an opportunity, one should create their own way to establish their career as a professional or an entrepreneur. Startups are flourishing today and are a great boost to the economy. In our times, students were not encouraged to join or establish start-ups and we never even had support from educational institutions. Time flew but our three E’s - Education, Experience and Efficiency were somehow confined to bookish knowledge.
If I get a chance again, I would love to become a student again and use the latest training and teaching techniques which involves active involvement of Web. We love to join and attend seminars, webinars, online courses, Facebook groups, knowledge chats and benchmarking standards, which gives us exposure to multi-culture traditions and multi skilled people coming under one roof for creating the future.
Aspiring big yet realistically is the way to go! All the latest futuristic gadgets like Hololens, Google SOLI, Google GLASS, Virtual Reality and Holographic Virtual Projections started as dreams that eventually turned into reality. Dream, Dream, Dream Big.... The greatest pleasure in life is to do what you like to... Sometimes, we need to win and sometimes, we need to learn... Both are equally important to move forward for creating a benchmark.
It’s now your turn to create and leave a mark of your existence & contribution in realization of the dreams. Now question yourself, what would you do for your next generation students?
