Mystory@Dhara Sardhara: How I chose my course and college
I did my schooling at M B Patel School, Ahmedabad where I studied Commerce as I was not really interested in Science. I thought I could do my best in the field of Commerce and I actually did.
How I chose my course
I selected my college for BCom and BBA, where after a small confusion, I opted BBA which led me to half-heartedly achieve my dream. Simultaneously, I prepared for CMAT. I completed my third year of BBA with specialization in Marketing where I got more than 90 per cent marks. After this, it became quite difficult to get admission in a famous or reputed college, but God helps everyone! And this is what I felt at the time when I got a call from Oakbrook Business School. This left me too elated. Here, I got exposure to varied cultures, atmosphere, infrastructure, faculty and all college facilities as well. Now I can see myself as a college representative with the help of my supportive college and the platform of the Shiksha Campus Connect Team.
During my BBA, I had two options: either to go for MBA/PGDM or take up a job. As usual, people have the habit of scrutinizing other’s life and this affected me too. Many of my friends took up jobs through placements but I remained confused due to less guidance. I found asking myself many questions: Shall I leave it right now and move further? What is the current salary for BBA students and will it be the same for MBA students? When I sought suggestion of my well-wisher faculty, she asked me about my interest and told me to do whatever I felt was right at that time. I realized that if I moved to MBA after BBA, I would definitely get two years of extra study time, knowledge, and experience of practical work and also get a chance to develop my interpersonal skills simultaneously. Eventually, I joined MBA with the help of CMAT score and got admission into the college of my choice. I just want to say that any person at any moment can influence you and your life turning it into a miracle.
I passed CMAT exam with the help of T.I.M.E. Institute, Ahmedabad. I visited so many institutes for CMAT like Career Launching, Comma Career Line and Endeavour but I found T.I.M.E to be the best suited for me. I realized this when I got to know about the results, achievement, suggestions and opinions of my seniors and well-wishers. T.I.M.E. helps its students in personality development, confidence building, and strategies to do well in personal interview, discussion related to Quantitative Analysis, Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Vocabulary and General Knowledge. Equal efforts are put in by the institute for each student.
How I selected my college
By fixing my goal, I put my efforts and focused only on the entrance test preparation. I enquired about MBA programmes of many colleges like N.R.BBA, B K School of Management, Narayan Business School, S.A.L. College, LD College, New L J Ahmedabad and many more where I consulted many faculties and representatives of relevant colleges about college’s reputation, infrastructure, facilities, etc. When I came across Oakbrook Business School, I just stopped there, because I had found the college of my choice. I got all relevant information at the college and took admission immediately. Now I am happily pursuing my first year of MBA at the college.
What I learnt in my college
I am now in MBA 1st year, where I got to meet students of my age from different cultural backgrounds. I learnt how to interact with different people. I spend more than seven hours in my college, which includes 6 hours of study and one hour of lunch time. Six hours includes sports, library time, computer lab, seminar, get together (three days per week), refreshment and classes of course. I pass my time by studying the books, giving answers of Ask & Answer task of Shiksha, where I get very knowledgeable things on its MBA platform and feel proud to play the role of a student advisor. I also make time to learn new games. I like creative things so I also like to discuss new innovative things with friends.
I completed my web marketing specialization. I like marketing, organizational behavior and production operation management, which are my favourite subjects. I participate in dance and singing as part of Republic Day, Independence Day and College Annual day celebrations. I also work in teams in management competitions like Ad-mad quiz and other events and take apart in coordination meetings.
If I get a chance I would like to improve the language skills of all students and teach them how to take stand and also teach them to communicate fluently. Earlier, I was very aggressive but a jolly person and took everything in lighter vein but after getting admission to Oakbrook Business School, I realize the responsibility of an MBA student - how to react on critical situation and it develops my passion level and control my anger.
I manage both work and education by utilizing my time creatively. My college also helps us by inviting big personalities of the Corporate World for seminars and conducting other management activities like marketing conclave, human resource management conclave, entrepreneurship conclave and Finance conclave. If I talk about the extra co-curricular activities, my college celebrates Navratri, Ganpati Puja, Christmas Day, Sports Day etc.
My college believes that practical knowledge is more important than theory. If every student understands the current scenario they can write about the same easily. My college offers exposure to corporate life and practical market by arranging visits to Gandhinagar vibrant Gujarat, Stock Exchange and visits to various Corporates.
In our college mock interviews, aptitude test, soft skill lectures and TCGL programme are conducted regularly to increase our practical knowledge and enhance our skills.
