Now I think bigger, instead of short-term goals, says Himanshu Dhawan

Jaipuria Institute of Management has changed my thinking capacity. Now I think bigger, instead of short-term goals. I am expecting myself to become a great learner and easily adaptable to change.
I lost my father when I was in class IX, and I had to take care of my business, so that was another reason for me to take commerce. I worked in KGMU (King George Medical University) during my B.Com second year, where I explored my potential, and I decided to pursue PGDM in Retail and Marketing.
I belong to Lucknow, therefore my mother asked me to take admission to the top management college in Lucknow itself. So, I took admission in Jaipuria Institute of Management for PGDM in Retail and Marketing. Keeping my potential in mind, I knew I can perform well in the corporate world. I just needed a platform where I can transform my leadership skills into managerial skills. For taking admission to Jaipuria Institute of Management, I needed to either crack CAT or MAT with more than 60% marks, so I took admission for a 3-month crash course in Catapult in Kapoorthala. They taught me many important topics to prepare for the exam.
I filled MAT (Paper Based Test and Computer Based Test) as well as CAT form. In October 2019, I attempted MAT (CBT), but unfortunately, I could not perform well. After that, I took CAT and scored 56% marks. In January, I took MAT (PBT), and I scored 86% marks and got a call for GD-PI from my dream college in Lucknow, i.e., Jaipuria Institute of Management. On the 28th of January 2020, I got a call for my first GD-PI, where my GD topic was “The fall of demand of Rooafza”. I cracked both phases and got admission to Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow.
In this pandemic situation, all the classes are going through an online platform, where I am not experiencing much exposure. But, I am enjoying my college life by interacting with new friends and faculties. In my first trimester, I like each and every subject, especially OB, Statistics, Principles of Management, because the way of teaching is quite interesting and it gives me much knowledge of how the corporate world moves. OB (Organizational Behaviour) is all about how do individuals and groups behave in different situations. I liked this subject the most and also scored well in my exams.
I am a junior member of the Admission Committee in my college. I organized many events like Casevia, Pitchingopedia, Treasure hunt, and we received a great response through these events. Given a chance, I will try to start a business, and during the time of induction of new students, each student will be given an opportunity to work in that business for 3 months. As MBA is all about physical market exposure, an experienced candidate can much easily participate in class as compared to a fresher, so I would give an opportunity to every new student to work in my business and then take admission for the PGDM course.
Jaipuria Institute of Management has changed my thinking capacity. Now I think bigger, instead of short-term goals. The more I am spending my time on classes, the more I can see myself changing for the better. Now, I know how to manage a team, how to work under pressure, and how to manage things in a short period of time. Further, I am expecting myself to become a great learner and easily adaptable to change.
