Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for BCA students at DAV College?

Success Rate of Placement Cell in Securing Jobs for BCA Students

Based on the reviews and comments from students and alumni, here's an overview of the success rate of the placement cell in securing jobs for BCA students:

    * Limited job offers: According to students, the placement cell mainly focuses on providing jobs to students pursuing MBA, while those studying BCA face limited job opportunities.
    * Few students secure positions: Out of a batch of approximately 150 students, only a few students with strong skills manage to secure positions in reputed companies like Infosys, Wipro, etc.
    * the highest package: The highest package recorded was 21 LPA, likely from D.E.Shaw, with an average package ranging between 2.5 to 3 LPA.
    * No internship provision: Unfortunately, the college does not offer internships to its students.
    * Need for improvement: Reviewers suggest that students need to develop soft skills and stay updated on current technologies to increase their chances of securing jobs.

While the placement cell seems to be struggling to place BCA students in top-notch companies, there are still opportunities available for students who excel academically and professionally.

    College good for UG courses
Placements: Dav college Chandigarh is famous for its ug courses and many of the students who take admissions here do not prefer to go for placements afterwards rather they for MCA and many of them have their family businesses. Last year many students got package of 11 LPA, many got 6 LPA and two students got an offers of 23 LPA but they all got this from off - campus placement derives. We do have an placement cell but you can expect a maximum of 6 LPA only.
Infrastructure: The facilities are very supportive, they provide you in and out of the college if we ask for and put in their 100% to teach their respective subjects. Our college has wifi facility, smart classrooms but only for some of the courses. We have an well equipped library known as Lal Chand Library having multiple floors with multiple sections. We have two canteen, two coffee spaces and juice corners.
Faculty: The teachers are qualified and are always supportive and helpful. They put in there 100% to teach their respective subjects and urge us to report to the classrooms daily. Our course curriculum is not relevant as of now , we have to gain extra knowledge and skills on our own if want to be industry ready. The mid semester exams are very easy to moderate and not effect our final cgpa, bit the final semester exams do play a. significant role along with practicals and assignments and the level remains same.
Other: Our college crowd is divided among who want to study and get placements and are like bibliophiles and among those who came to college just to roam to around or participate in the college elections. Hence you need to be very careful while picking your friend circle.

I don't recommend this college to anyone who wants to get into the domain of software engineering.
Placements: Only PHP companies come to college. Offers are very low, around 20K to 15K per month. The average package is 25k per month If you got lucky, then you can expect the highest package of 1 lac per month, which was offered to 2 to 3 students in the year 2024. The placement percentage is around 1%. PHP developer is the top role offered.
Infrastructure: The classes are not so good for our course as we spend most of our time in front of computers; they don't have working computers. The software that is used for writing code is also outdated. I am a regular candidate, so I don't have experience with hostels and mess.
Faculty: Only some teachers are serious. The curriculum is outdated. I think the curriculum is 20 years old. It is not going to make you industry-ready. You don't even get a job at a call center. Exams are easy, but this is not making you a good software engineer. You can study 1 day before exam and still make it.
Other: I chose this course to just get a degree, nothing more than that. If you are thinking of getting into a good peer group, then it's impossible. The students come to college to show how rich they are.

    Small Campus and Crowded.
Placements: In BCA, we usually have a batch of around 150 students every year. Regarding placements, only a few students with strong skills secure positions in companies like Infosys, Wipro, etc. The highest package recorded was 21 LPA, possibly from D. E. Shaw, and the average package ranges from 2.5 to 3 LPA. The college does not provide any internships.
Infrastructure: The college has more than five computer labs, with internet working only in 1 to 2 labs. The rest of the labs could be considered outdated. Wi-Fi is almost negligible. Classrooms are decent, and some are equipped with projectors, specifically in the computer science department. The college library is quite good, with proper ACs, and it even has an outer reading hall for those who prefer studying with their own books. I haven't stayed in the hostel. There are two canteens, one juice bar, and one Nescafe. The prices in the canteen are expensive, and the food is decent but always crowded. Regarding sports, the campus has a cricket ground with nets, a basketball court (with one broken backboard), a volleyball court, and a gymnasium, as well as a volleyball court that is always closed.
Faculty: Teachers regularly come to class and teach. The teaching quality is sufficient for making notes with the help of teachers. You don't need to worry about the faculty staff (at least for BCA, they are good). Regarding the course curriculum and preparing students for the industry, you need to hustle yourself and work hard to secure a job because the college may not teach you the right skills. Stay updated on the current technology used in the industry and learn by doing. The pass percentage is 40% in semester exams.
Other: I have a passion for coding—not the theoretical stuff but the practical side. The subjects are the most interesting aspects of the course (subjects like C programming, C+, DBMS, Java, computer organization, web development, etc.). You will study such subjects throughout the course. The campus is quite crowded (which I dislike), washrooms are often a mess, sometimes water coolers do not work in summers, and the campus is not very big.

Life in DAV College, sector 10.
Placements: Placements were provided to 3rd year students in my course. Companies like Deloitte and Accenture hire at a maximum package of 4-5 LPA. Generally, the roles were sales, junior testers and developers. I think almost 30% of students get placed. The students can access placement forms on the college website.
Infrastructure: I don't know about the hostel but the campus is good. There is Wi-Fi for hostelers only, not for day scholars. The canteen food was decent and there is a lot of greenery on campus. There was also a decent auditorium and a library, which had ample books.
Faculty: The faculty was good. They have knowledge of their subjects. Some of the teachers explanations were clear-cut. There are two sections in my course. Before semester exams, there were only 1 midterm and 1 lab practical. The course is not that difficult.

Our college provides good placements for 2020.
Placements: Around 50 students are placed out of 120 students. The highest salary package offered is 3 LPA. The average salary package offered is 2 LPA. The top recruiting companies are IBM, Infosys, and Wipro. The roles offered are software developer and tester.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good in this college. Wi-Fi, laboratories, classrooms, library, hostel, and canteen are available. Medical facilities are also provided. For sports and games different playgrounds are available. There are several book shops. Our college also provides library cards for issuing books from the library.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified and knowledgeable. Their teaching quality is very good. Our course curriculum is very useful for students who are interested in programming. There are 6 semesters in this course. Semester exams are not tough, if students are interested in programming.
Other: I chose this course, because it is easy for me, and also I am interested in programming and software development.

    Basic overview of the course.
Placements: There are two sections in the first year. Each section has two groups. Each group has approximately 80 students. Before our batch, around 74–75% of the total students were placed. The highest, the lowest and average packages were approximately 11 LPA, 1.5 LPA and 3 LPA respectively. The top companies were Decathlon, Airtel, Vivo. My estimation is that around 20 to 25% of students got internships.
Infrastructure: WiFi is available in the hostel with no extra charges, but non-hostelers have to pay extra for it. The infrastructure of the college is very good compared to other colleges. The library has all the necessary books. The classrooms are also nice. The hostel rooms are well-maintained, and I had an AC room. However, the mess food was not fresh, and the bathrooms in the hostel had a very bad odor and were extremely dirty. Due to these issues, my friend and I left the hostel and opted for a PG.
Faculty: The teachers appear to be highly qualified and experienced, demonstrating their expertise in simplifying complex topics. However, I believe that the current curriculum does not adequately prepare students for the industry. Additionally, the semester exams are relatively straightforward and not particularly challenging.
Other: I chose this course with a focus on the technology-driven future. However, there is a dire need for significant improvements in the hostel facilities, particularly the mess and bathrooms. The campus is populated, but the productivity of the student body for the society is lacking. The college organizes various extracurricular activities such as campaigns, dance competitions, and sits.
