Q:   Question: How is the course curriculum for B.Arch at MBS School of Planning and Architecture?

    A:
    {Source: B.Arch students & alumni}

Course Curriculum at MBS School of Planning and Architecture

The course curriculum at MBS School of Planning and Architecture is structured by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) with consideration of the Council of Architecture. Here's an overview of the curriculum:

    * Variety of Subjects: The course covers a range of subjects to equip students with necessary knowledge and skills.
    * Practical Training: A significant portion of the course involves practical training, allowing students to gain hands-on experience.
    * Teaching Quality: Faculty members are knowledgeable and helpful, providing guidance throughout the course.
    * Relevant to Industry: The curriculum is designed to prepare students for the industry, focusing on current scenarios rather than theoretical concepts.
    * Theory and Practice Balance: While some students find certain subjects dry, others appreciate the balance between theory and practice.

It's essential to note that while the curriculum is well-designed, students should supplement their learning by studying beyond the college syllabus to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. Additionally, students may need to rely on self-study and connections made during internships to secure placements after graduation.

College is pretty decent; it's up to students how they perform in studies.
Placements: 50% of the students were placed. College is very helpful; there is a dedicated placement cell. Top recruiters are DLF, Raheja, etc. Roles offered include junior architect, draftsman, and other jobs related to the field of architecture. You can get a job with a salary between 15 to 60k.
Infrastructure: Faculty members and classrooms are pretty decent. College is building a new campus for the development and growth of students. A dedicated cafeteria and new sports ground are yet to be made for cultural and personal growth. There are dedicated societies for students.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified, and it's up to students how they maintain relationships with teachers to get good marks in internal assessments, which is very helpful. If they get good marks in internal, they will ultimately pass.

Good college can do better in extra curriculum activities.
Placements: We don't have on-campus placements. We do internships in the 5th year and then go on to start jobs as junior architects, associate architects, etc. You need to go out and find jobs yourself as an architect or you can open your architectural firm but it requires a lot of initial money.
Infrastructure: We have a small college as there is only 1 course. We have so-called Wi-Fi but it is of no use in working on heavy software. Our studios are big and airy. We also have projectors installed in every classroom. We do not have a hostel. The library is air-conditioned and has a good variety of books.
Faculty: Every teacher is different. Some are very helpful and open. Some are strict and it is a little to talk to them openly. Although it is a practical course, still there are a lot of theory subjects that become boring at one point. Teaching quality is good in most subjects. Semester exams are not very difficult. If you study your faculty's notes, you will surely pass your exams.
Other: I chose this course because I thought I like designing. The main thing that we can improve is to make it more practical and realistic. They should teach us what is happening in the field rather than just bookish knowledge. It is a very studious college. Not like DU colleges. There are societies but they work only once s year. Otherwise, no cultural activities are done. We come and study mainly.

MS SPA is a fine college for architectural education.
Placements: There is no such active placement cell in the college. It's difficult to get placed without any personal connection in the practical field. Students get selected for the internship semester with the help of seniors and faculty members. Placements of students depend on the skills and level of the portfolio. The college provides assistance in finding firms and with a letter of recommendation.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is quite good. The design studios are very well maintained and are spacious and provide a stimulating learning environment. Studios are equipped with drafting tables and display boards that display the work done by the students. The college library is well designed and maintained with a huge collection of books. The college also has a number of well-equipped labs and workshops, including model making lab, climatology lab, surveying lab, computer lab and a construction yard.
Faculty: In our college, faculty members are very genuine and knowledgeable. Throughout the entire course of an undergraduate programme, the faculty members acted as a guide for a better future. The academic curriculum and the examination pattern are as per the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University as the college is affiliated to it and is approved by the Council of Architecture.

It is a great architecture college.
Placements: The college doesn't have a placement cell. Firms have a "join us" tab on their websites, where one can apply by sending in their portfolios. Apart from that, the college did provide me with a list of architecture firms, their contact numbers and e-mail IDs.
Infrastructure: MS is one of the few architecture colleges in IP University that has an individual campus for B.Arch. The infrastructure is well maintained, It has a very good canteen and a well-equipped library. Well-ventilated studios are available, with large drafting tables. The campus is spacious.
Faculty: The faculty members have been really helpful and qualified. The course curriculum includes a variety of subjects to make one well-equipped with the knowledge needed. In 5 years, my highlight was Ar. Mansha Samreen, being my thesis guide who helped me take my design language to another level. The course also included a significant amount of time for practical training as well, which teaches one way to work in the industry.
