National School of Drama, Delhi (NSD Delhi) is one of the premier institutes for theatre training and dramatics studies. It was established in 1959 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units. It became an independent entity in 1975 and was registered as an autonomous organisation under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. NSD Delhi is fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Students are taken through the practical journey of evolution of dramatics and are taught Sanskrit drama, modern Indian drama, traditional Indian theatre forms, Asian drama and western dramatic protocols. NSD Delhi has two performing wings — the Repertory Company (1965) and Theatre-in-Education Company (1989). In addition to this, NSD Delhi also has an active Extension Programme, which conducts workshops and programmes for adults and children across India.

NSD Delhi offers a three-year full-time Diploma in subjects related to theatre studies. The new academic session begins in July every year.

NSD Delhi Diploma Admission 2021

NSD Delhi Diploma admission takes place in two phases. In the first phase, candidates need to clear an NSD entrance examination, also known as a preliminary exam. If candidates are selected, they have to appear in the second phase which consists of a five-day final examination workshop within the campus.

Admission offer to the institute is subject to clearing of the fitness test. Hence, candidates need to submit a medical fitness certificate at NSD Delhi at the time of admission process.

• The minimum age at the time of admission should be 18 years
• The upper age limit for admission is 30 years
• The upper age limit is relaxed by five years for SC/ST and OBC applicants

NSD Delhi application form is available online as well as offline. The steps to fill the online application form are mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the official website of NSD Delhi at www.nsd.gov.in/delhi.

Step 2: Click on ‘New Admission’ on the homepage and you will be redirected to a new page.

Step 3: Register yourself as a new user by entering a username and a password.

Step 4: Fill the application form with all personal and academic details and attach the necessary documents.

Step 5: Submit the application form along with the documents and application fee of Rs 50. The application fee can be paid online through net banking, credit or debit card.

NSD Delhi offline application form can be filled by following the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: To receive the application form and prospectus (in English and Hindi) by post, you need to write to “The Dean Academics, National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi 110001”.

Step 2: Send this application along with a crossed demand draft/pay order of Rs 225, payable at Delhi, including postal charges in favour of the “Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi”.

NSD Delhi Admit Card 2021

NSD Delhi admit card is available at two weeks before the preliminary examination. Candidates need to download the admit card from the official website of NSD Delhi as the institute does not send the admit card through post or any other modes. Students are not permitted to give the entrance exam without the admit card.

NSD Delhi Scholarships 2021

NSD Delhi offers a scholarship of Rs 3,000 per month to the students. The selected candidates need to follow the below-mentioned rules:

• If the candidate decides to discontinue training before the end of three years or is made to discontinue on disciplinary grounds, they will then have to return all the money paid to him/her before such discontinuance
• Candidates need to furnish a surety of Rs 1.08 lakh, duly attested by a district magistrate or any revenue authority
• The selected candidates are covered by Risk Cover Insurance Policy and are required to pay the premium amount between Rs 150 and Rs 200
