ANANT NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

Established in 2016 by an Act of Legislature of the State of Gujarat, Anant National University is a as a private university. Anant National University is known to have partnerships with renowned international universities such as University of Pennsylvania, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, University of Miami, Sustain Labs Paris, etc.

Admission Process: Candidates need to clear AnantU Design Entrance Test followed by a situation test and an interview in order to secure admission in BDes courses offered at Anant National University. At the time of interview aspirants are advised to carry their design portfolios with them.

CEPT UNIVERSITY

Centre for Environment Planning & Technology (CEPT) was established in 1962 by the Ahmedabad Education Society (AES). Initially CEPT University was run by this society only but in 1994, CEPT Society which was a separate trust and society was established. CEPT is registered as a Society and Public Charitable Trust.

Admission Process: Candidates need to appear for and clear an Aptitude Test that is conducted by CEPT University in order to secure admission in Bachelor of Design (Building Products and Systems/Furniture) offered by it. The Aptitude Test conducted by CEPT University comprises of two modules. Module-I comprises of drawing based questions that are based on the theme of perception, creativity, observation, imagination and analysis. On the other hand, Module-II consists of multiple choice questions from topics such as Logical Reasoning, Social and cultural awareness, Basic principles of Math and Science, Problem Solving, Design awareness and English Communication.

DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN, NIRMA UNIVERSITY

Established in 2003 by a special act passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly, Nirma University is recognised by the University Grants Commission and is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Nirma University is also a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Admission Process: Candidates need to clear an entrance exam that is conducted by the Department of Design, Nirma University in order to secure admission in programmes offered by the University’s design department. Aspirants who clear the entrance exam then need to appear for a personal interview and portfolio review round.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY

Established in 2011, Design Development Academy was inaugurated by Mr. Christopher Charles Benninger, an ace architect of Asia. Design Development Academy is associated with edexcel, University of Portsmouth and De Montfort University.

Admission Process: Candidates are offered admission in BDes courses offered at Design Development Academy on the basis of their performance in their Class 12 exams. Design Development Academy does not conduct any entrance exam to offer admission to aspirants in BDes course offered by it.

INDUS UNIVERSITY

Established in 2006, Indus University is managed by Bhandari Charitable Trust and is spread across an area of 16 acres. Indus University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes to aspirants. It has seven institutes that fall under its ambit, which are – Institute of Design Environment and Architecture (IDEA), Indus Institute of Technology and Engineering (IITE), Institute of Aviation Technology and Engineering (IATE), Indus Institute of Management Studies (IIMS), Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT), Indus Institute of Special Studies (IISS) and Indus center for research, innovation and skill development (ICRISD).

Admission Process: Candidates are shortlisted for admission in Bachelor of Design programmes offered at Indus University’s Institute Design School on the basis of their performance in Indus Design Test (IDT). As part of this entrance test, candidates need to first appear for a design test which is followed by a studio test and a personal interview round.

GANPAT UNIVERSITY

Established in 2005, Ganpat University is spread across 300 acres of land and is known to have 10,000 students on campus. Ganpat University is known to offer industry-oriented education to students. The University offers UG, PG, Diploma and Research programmes to aspirants. Ganpat University has many faculties such as – Engineering and Technology, Pharmacy, Humanities and Social Science, Computer Applications, Management, Sciences, Education and Human Potential Development.

Admission Process: Candidates are offered admission to fill a total of 75% seats on the basis of their performance in GNUDAT Design Test and the remaining 25% seats are available for admission under management quota.

GLS INSTITUTE OF DESIGN

Falling under the ambit of GLS University, Ahmedabad, GLS Institute of Design offers BDes as well as five year integrated Master of Design (MDes) courses to students in specialisations such as product design, space design, communication design and fashion design.

Admission Process: Aspirants are shortlisted for admission in BDes programmes offered at GLS Institute of Design on the basis of their performance in GLS Institute of Design DAT. Candidates who clear the design aptitude test then need to take part in an interaction round that is conducted at GLS campus. 

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN, AHMEDABAD

Established in 1961, National Institute of Design (NID) is one of the most prestigious design schools in the country. Considered to be an ‘Institute of National Importance’, NID is recognised by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.

NID Ahmedabad offers Bachelor of Design (BDes), Master of Design (MDes) and PhD programmes in design to aspirants.

Admission Process: Candidates need to appear for NID Entrance Exam in order to secure admission in BDes programmes offered by the design school. NID admission process comprises of two stages which are NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains). As part of NID DAT Prelims candidates need to appear for a written design aptitude test. Aspirants who are shortlisted for admission basis their performance in NID DAT Prelims then need to appear for NID DAT (Mains) which comprises of a Studio Test and an Interview round.

UNITEDWORLD INSTITUTE OF DESIGN

A part of Karnavati University, Unitedworld Institute of Design (UID) offers undergraduate as well as postgraduate programmes in the design field to aspirants. Each course offered at UID has been formulated by keeping aspects related to individual and collective creativity in mind. As part of the course curriculum aspirants are given theoretical assessment, design practice as well as curatorial evaluations.

Admission Process: Candidates need to clear UID Design Aptitude Test in order to secure admission in Bachelor of Design programmes offered at the design school. Students who clear the written entrance exam conducted by Unitedworld Institute of Design then need to appear for a Situation Test and Professional Interview round.
