CEED 2020 Exam Analysis for Part A

There were 42 questions in which most of the questions were standard Aptitude questions like series and sequences, odd one out, visual puzzles like counting of figures, rotation based visual puzzles etc.

These questions were standard, just like the aptitude in all the past CEED question papers and for general knowledge there was a question on logos; Aadhaar card, election commission, SAIL, Google chrome. Other than this, no other general knowledge questions were asked which was quite surprising.

Questions on shadows were given in which a product was shown with two light sources falling on it, the student had to choose how light and shadows would behave on that product. Also, another question in which a girl was looking out of a window with a clock next to her showed a time of 6 o'clock and it was mentioned that it was morning, the student had to guess from the given options as to how sunlight would fall on her face.

Overall, in terms of difficulty level the students said Part A was not as difficult as compared to the previous years’ pattern and that extensive practice of past years CEED paper was critical to finish this section of the paper on time.

CEED 2020 Exam Analysis for Part B

There were five questions asked in this section which were of 20 marks each. The questions asked in the section were:

S. No.

CEED 2020 Question

Type of Question

A caricature of a fisherwoman was given and two scenarios were to be drawn in which:

  • The woman was shooing flies that were sitting on her fish away with a towel
  • The woman was shouting at a customer

Character Drawing Question

2

Five images were given of flowers, plants and a tree (hibiscus, cactus, palm tree, etc.), and these had to be drawn in a pictogram/ 2D graphic format and to be coloured with only black and white colour.

Graphic Question

3

The top part of a mixer grinder (one used in a kitchen) was shown, the student had to draw the whole mixer grinder with as much as detail and texture as possible.

Product Drawing Question

4

A normal tooth brush was given, the student had to identify the problems faced by using this tooth brush,

Design Problem Identification

5

Random lines were given in ten boxes (all lines were the same) out of these lines, one had to visualise and draw everyday products from them

Basic Doodle Sketch Question

What happened this time is that the drawing section was very interesting. The questions were basic, simple and were designed to test the fundamental raw skills of the student and I think this is a brilliant approach by CEED, unlike previous years where complex design problem solving questions were given. Because if the fundamentals of a student are good, any student can be taught design process in schools. So, students with basic good fundamental drawing and visualisation skills were very lucky this time with regard to the drawing section.

Overall, as compared to previous years it was a welcoming change in CEED exam pattern.
