Q. Congratulations! Did you expect to get shortlisted in NID DAT (Prelims) 2018? What was your score and rank in the exam?

A.

Yes, I was expecting for a positive result. My score is 63 and I secured rank 27 in Furniture & Interior Design (Open Category) and rank 21 in Strategic Design Management (Open Category) in NID DAT Prelims.

Q. How did you prepare for the exam?

A.

I referred the previous years’ question papers of NID Entrance Exam and I practiced by solving them within the time limit. Apart from this, I kept myself updated with the current affairs and practised sketching regularly.

Q. Did you join any coaching classes for NID DAT prep?

A.

I did not join any coaching institute/classes.

Q. When should one start preparing for the exam?

A.

As early as possible. Since a lot of questions are based on general knowledge, keeping yourself updated with current affairs is necessary. Sketching every day is also important and once you get a hang of it, you can time yourself while sketching.

Talking about my prep strategy, I started preparing just a couple of weeks prior to the exam. I made sure I sketched every day.

Q. Are there any important topics to score well in NID Entrance Exam?

A.

Being aware of the current affairs and updating your general knowledge really helps for Part A preparation.

Q. Any preparation tips from your experience?

A.

Try sketching when you see something interesting or something that catches your attention. Apart from this, observing details in everything is very helpful.

Q. What as per you are the mistakes one should avoid while preparing for the exam?

A.

It is important that the aspirants practice sketching everyday. One mistake aspirants should look out for is not sketching in proportions. Drawing proportionately is very important.

Q. How did you prepare for different sections of the exam?

A.

For NID DAT Part A exam, I read about what has happened and is happening around the world, like important events, achievements, etc. I always carried a notebook to sketch. If I couldn't sketch something I saw, I clicked a picture and made it a point to sketch when I get back home. I sketched everyday products from the house as well.

Q. When did you start revising the syllabus?

A.

A couple of weeks prior to the exam.

Q. How did you manage time while giving the exam?

A.

I finished part A in around 1 hour and 20 minutes. NID DAT (Prelims) Part B really needs good amount of time to think and then sketch. So, aspirants should keep ample time to solve this section of the exam.

Q. Which as per you was the most difficult part of the NID DAT exam?

A.

A few questions in NID Entrance Exam Part A.

Q. Is there any section that plays the “deciding factor” for getting shortlisted in the exam?

A.

I'm not sure but I guess Part B might play the deciding factor, since it tests one’s thought process, creativity and skills.

Q. How will you prepare for the Studio Test and Interview round?

A.

I will be building my portfolio for disciplines that I have applied for and work on my soft skills.

Q. Any advice for NID aspirants?

A.

Be observant and curious, stay updated and keep sketching.

Q. What are your future plans?

A.

My future plan is to excel from NID and start a design studio where I can design products as per my style and create an identity in the industry and also bring a positive change in people's lives.
