NIFT UG Exam Analysis 2018
The NIFT 2018 GAT paper had no surprises, both in terms of pattern as well as the type of questions asked as compared to the previous years’ papers. English, math and mental ability were pretty straightforward and reading comprehension passages were moderate but lengthy. Thus, it would have been a good strategy to answer the reading comprehension questions after the students have answered all the other sections since they are a bit time consuming. The general knowledge and fashion aptitude questions were a bit tricky in terms of depth of topics and covered the usual range of company branding and advertising. Questions were also asked in major fashion events and fairs like the Vastra Fair, like the Gulf of Mannar in geography, politics and current affairs, like who elects the governor for the state in India and what is the implementation date of GST. Students were able to finish the paper in the stipulated time.

The CAT had 3 questions with choices. In the first question for 40 marks, there was a small twist in which they included instructional design. In this, 4 boxes were given and the student had to draw the steps involved to change a bulb or make a paper boat. The second question also for 40 marks was to design a bag either for a marriage, a picnic or for shopping. The third question was a graphic question for 20 marks which asked the student to depict their personality with basic geometric shapes. This question tested the students in their fundamentals in graphic design.
Overall, since NIFT Entrance Exam was pretty straightforward, going through the past years’ question papers besides being well practiced, would enable the students do well in the exam.
NIFT PG Exam Analysis 2018
The NIFT 2018 GAT paper had no changes as compared to the previous years’ papers, both in terms of pattern as well as the type of questions asked. English was pretty easy. Mental ability followed the standard pattern questions like coding and decoding, both in letters and numbers format. In math, regular questions were asked in profit and loss, ratio and proportion, time and work and statistical data. Mensuration was not given much importance this year and some students found questions on roots a bit tough. Reading comprehension passages were moderately easy but lengthy. Thus, it would have been a good strategy to answer the reading comprehension questions after the students had answered all the other sections, since they were a bit time consuming. The general knowledge and fashion aptitude questions were slightly tricky in terms of depth of topics. They covered the usual range of current affairs, company branding and advertising like Manushi Chhillar, Femina Miss India World 2017 being the brand ambassador for Bata.
The CAT had 3 questions having options with a total of 100 marks although they had a small twist. The 1st question was to write down 10 steps for preparing tea. This is more like instructional design. However, students just had to write the steps down. The 2nd question was a product design question in which students had to draw a chair representing their personality. The 3rd question was to draw the work spaces for given professionals, wherein options were given between a carpenter, a gardener and a chef. This would be more to test the student’s ability in perspective, sketching an environment with as much details with human figure.
Overall, since the exam was pretty straightforward, going through the past years’ question papers besides being well practiced, would enable the students do well in the exam.
