CEED 2017 Student Reaction: Exam was easy
CEED exam was conducted by IIT Bombay today, January 22, 2017 from 10 am to 1 pm. CEED 2017 exam dates are such that the result for the exam is scheduled to be declared on March 10, 2017.
CEED 2017 was divided into two sections – Part A and Part B, which were of 100 marks each. CEED Part A exam consisted of objective type questions and Part B contained subjective questions.
This year CEED exam was conducted at iON Digital centres spread across 19 test cities in the country. Shiksha was reporting live from a CEED test centre located at Mathura road where more than 700 students took the exam.
Although CEED exam started on time but students were allowed to exit the test centre only by 1:30 pm, ie, half an hour late. When enquired about the same, Harshdeep said, “the paper finished on time but the authorities were verifying whether the test paper of each roll number was submitted properly or not that’s why the delay”.
Majority of the students we spoke to shared that Common Entrance Examination for Design 2017 (CEED 2017) exam paper was easier than last year. However, others felt that the time given to solve Part B of the exam was less. But overall, there was not much difference in the test pattern and marking scheme of CEED exam as compared to previous years’ papers.
CEED 2017: Difficulty Level of Part A and Part B of the Exam
An MBA aspirant, Akanksha was quoted as saying that she had not prepared for the CEED exam in particular but as per her the “difficulty level was quite normal” and she was able to complete the exam on time. She also said that “there were not many GK questions and very few questions from Maths. Most of the questions were on visualisation. Part B of the exam had normal sketching questions. No Product Design related questions were asked”. However, she revealed that there were two questions on Vehicle design. She further shared that Part A questions of CEED exam were more aptitude based and Part B drawing based.
Harsh Saxena felt that the test pattern of CEED was different from past years’ “I have been going through the previous years’ question papers and the pattern is very different you cannot compare one from the other”. Overall the exam difficulty level was fine for Harsh. Along same lines Kartike Ghade shared that, “My paper was nice and I guess it was tougher than last year. Part B was a little lengthy and time-taking. Part A was as usual”. He gave the exam for Communication Design and questions related to poster making were asked in his paper.
As per Talha, CEED 2017 exam was good but a little lengthy. “Paper was easy it had engineering type mathematics questions and so it was easy for students with engineering background”. Talking about the test pattern as well as difficulty level of the exam as compared to last year he said, “Pattern of the exam was exactly the same as that of last year and difficulty level was also similar. Part B of the exam wasn’t as lengthy as it was last year”. Elaborating further about Part B of the exam he said, “My Part B questions were Animation based. I was given 10 shots and I had to make a story from them. Then in another question I was given a helmet and I had to give creative ideas on its usage apart from the common uses. Then there was a fruit seller and a dog is chasing him and a child on a tricycle is seeing/observing this scene. So, basically this section was simple testing our creativity and imagination. So as per me Part B of the exam was easier and better than last year”. The marking scheme of CEED exam was also similar to last year. “Part A had three sections, first and second section had negative marking whereas in the third section there were only multiple select questions which did not have negative marking”. Both Part A and B of the exam were of 100 marks.
Vasundhara who was taking CEED exam for the first time revealed that she refrained from going through previous years’ question papers as she felt that if the difficulty level of the exam would have been too high she would be extremely nervous before taking the exam. Talking about her experience of appearing for CEED 2017, she said, “Numerical questions were fine and they were not exactly multiple choice questions so you had to write down answers for most of them. MCQs and MSQs were also good. Drawing part was tough and long. Giving just two hours for Part B wasn’t enough for me and I was not able to solve the 50 marks questions as per my liking”. Elaborating on the test pattern of CEED Part B exam she said that the test had “Fashion communication based questions, interactive and animation based questions and each question tested creative and analytical skills”. She further shared that if you keep the 50 marks question aside then overall her paper was good.
Experience of Giving Computer Based CEED Exam
Latika, Shrija Roy and Surya Srivastava shared that their CEED exam went well. Talking about her experience of giving a computer based test (CBT), Latika said, “MY CEED exam went OK. It was just that it was pretty difficult to understand the process of attempting questions because we have not done it on the system before. So, it was a bit difficult to understand how it works”.
She further shared, “The exam was pretty easy as compared to last year. Part A had three sections. First set contained 10 questions of three marks mostly maths based questions”, Surya prompted by saying that the first section had numerical aptitude test (NAT) questions. “Second was of 20 marks multiple select questions and third was MCQs. All the sections were fine not very difficult and easier than previous years. The overall weightage of Part A was 100 marks”, stated Latika.
Surya shared that, “Part B was also easy. There was one question in which we had to give different uses of helmet except for the usual use, basically we had to give unconventional/creative uses of the helmet”.
Talking about another questions asked in the exam Shrija said, “We were given three words and we had to make a story using three lines. That was pretty easy”.
When asked which was the easier section of CEED 2017 – Part A or Part B; all three unanimously agreed that Part B of the exam was easier for them.
