LPU student bags first prize at Fashion Design Awards India (FDAI) 2013
More than 500 entries from different fashion institutes across Asia competed for the Fashion Design Awards India (FDAI) Contest 2013. And the first prize is bagged by a M.Sc student of School of Fashion Design at Lovely Professional University (LPU).
Sancharan Sural Jain, in his first semester of the course, won the award under the theme "Aura of Vintage" at the FDAI Awards ceremony, recently held in Jaipur. Sancharan’s winning creation is a 'Gown' (seen in the picture) inspired from antique clock & Victorian era. Beauty pageant Miss Asia Pacific 2012 winner, Himangini Singh Yadu walked the ramp displaying the exquisite craftsmanship of flock printing & dyeing by Sancharan.
The judges included model and actress, Pooja Misrra, designer James Ferraira, Varun Khatial and ace Hyderabad designer Shravan. Two LPU students made it among the 40 finalists selected from hundreds of contestants. The other student was Preeti Mallick of B.Sc Fashion Design, (Semester-1). The show was directed by Shie lobo and put together by the ‘Big Boss’ studio headed by Ashok.
Commenting on his success, Sancharan said, “I always try to create differently. That is why I have excelled upon others. This appreciation has further boosted me and I am now ready to create a series of this awarded gown, which will be based on Indian traditions and paintings. No doubt, I have myself worked very hard but I also want to thank my teachers and instructors who identified and guided me well to participate in the contest.”
