NID Entrance Exam 2016 Student Reactions

NID DAT 2016 is finally over. The first phase of NID Entrance Exam 2016 was held across 17 test cities in the country today, January 10, 2016. Aspirants seeking admissions in BDes, MDes and GDPD programmes need to clear NID DAT in order to be eligible to appear for NID Studio Test and interview rounds.

NID Entrance Exam was a 3 hour duration test which was held from 10 am to 1 pm. NID DAT 2016 was of 100 marks weightage and comprised of two parts, that is, Section A and Section B.

Shiksha.com covered NID Entrance Exam from Ground Zero wherein 774 students took NID DAT 2016. A vast majority of students who were taking the NID admission test were from the engineering background with a keen interest in design.

While the exam centre and test facilities offered to students in Delhi and neighbouring areas were good. Some students in test centres in Chennai and Hyderabad shared that they faced a lot of difficulty in giving the exam. In one of the NID exam centres in Chennai there was a blarring loud speaker which made it difficult for students to concentrate on the exam. On the other hand, in one of the test centres in Hyderabad, aspirants were not provided with proper tables to write and were made to give NID DAT 2016 on wooden planks and broken chairs.

Most of the aspirants we spoke to shared that Part A of NID Entrance Exam 2016 was objective and comprised of general awareness questions. Part B of NID DAT was subjective and lengthy. Many aspirants even said that the questions requiring them to provide problem solving solutions were very time consuming and thus, they were not able to complete their exam on time.

Overall, aspirants shared that the difficulty level of the exam was moderate and the paper did not hold any surprises for them.

NID Entrance Exam 2016: How was the exam?

There was a single questions paper for admissions in different PG programmes offered at NID.  Most aspirants were expecting different subjective questions for different course admissions and were surprised when this was not the case.

Alankar Tripathi who is currently working with Honda Automobiles and applied for admission in MDes in Transportation and Automobile Design said, “It was a good exam and it is quite easy for anyone to compete and qualify. The paper wasn’t difficult at all”. Having given and qualified for NID entrance exam last year as well, Alankar felt that the text paper was quite simple and he is hoping to crack the exam this year as well.

Shivangi, a BCom graduate shared, “The exam was good and it had lesser questions related to designing. The section related to testing the aptitude was very good for me”. Talking about the difficulty level of the exam, Shivangi shared that the test paper wasn’t that hard for her.

“The difficulty level of both the sections was same. But if I compare them, then I would say that the first part was quite difficult and it was lengthy too. There were 87 questions in Part A and only 3 questions in Part B. I couldn’t even complete my paper on time because of time-difficulty in the drawing part even though the questions asked were easy”, says Shivangi.

Talking about NID Entrance Exam 2016, a Graphic Design and Fashion Lifestyle Accessories aspirant, Jayanti Mishra said, “The paper was OK but you can’t really be sure with the NID entrance exam because the first part was good in a way because the GK questions were easy. The second part which was the creative and drawing part was very tricky and very interesting to solve at the same time”. Elaborating on the difficulty level she said, “Difficulty level of section A was average and section B would be above average”.

The questions asked in NID DAT were good as per Sumanshu Gupta, a final year student of NIT Raipur. “Questions were from Maths, designing and they also provided us with a sheet to draw. So, I am hoping to score well in the exam”. He also stated that in NID entrance exam 2016, “Questions asked were not tough but they definitely tested an aspirant’s presence of mind”.

“My exam was average but I attempted all the questions. If you ask me about the difficulty level of NID DAT 2016, I would rate it 6 on 10”, shared Varun who has applied for admission in Product Design and Transport Design courses offered at NID.  Elaborating on the nitty-gritties of NID DAT 2016, he further said, “The exam was too time-consuming. Section A was completely objective and I am only 50% sure that I gave the right answers. For me Section B was confusing because the type of questions asked in the paper seemed to be for BDes aspirants wherein we had to make posters and illustrations and I was more prepared for specific questions on Product and Transport design”.

Talking about NID DAT exam, a MDes in Apparel and Textile Design aspirant, Komal revealed that, “The exam was quite good but I expected the questions to be more oriented towards the specific design specialisation fields although the question paper for all courses was the same. The paper was lengthy and I missed out on solving quite a few questions otherwise it was good”. Komal couldn’t complete her exam on time and so was quoted as saying, “The difficulty level of the exam if I rate it out of 10 then it would be 8. Section A was quite easy but it was lengthy and so many of us couldn’t finish Section B because of this”.

Contrary to Komal’s experience, Sandeep a Film and Video and Photography course aspirant said that NID DAT test paper was very easy as compared to previous years and as per him, “Both the sections of the exam were easy and I completed the paper on time”.

As per Nalli who is a MBA student from Delhi, “The exam was very easy. Both the sections were very easy and test level was similar to CEED”. This was her first attempt at appearing for NID entrance exam to secure admission in the college’s course but Nalli feels that she has nothing to worry because she completed her paper on time.

NID Entrance Exam 2016: Test Pattern

Prior to the exam, many students were extremely nervous and did not know what to expect of the test paper. However, it was welcome change to see smiling faces after NID Entrance Exam got over.

Talking about NID DAT 2016 exam pattern Alankar Tripathi shared, “In the first section, general questions were asked”. Elaborating on the test structure he said, “Questions asked were from arts, science, history, geography and other general awareness questions. In the next section, a statement was given and we had to draw things and then three statements were given where we had to give conclusion as well as the problem solution. In one of the questions in the second section we had to make a banner on healthy foods”.

Product Design and Textile Design course aspirant at NID, Shivangi, said, “The test paper was quite different from last year. The designing part was very little and the aptitude questions were very different from last year. This year there were many multiple objective type questions but last year it wasn’t like that because there were questions like one liners etc. But this year there were only objective types questions”. Supporting this claim, Sandeep also shared that, “The exam pattern wasn’t similar to last year, the test pattern is like CEED now”.

As per Jayanti Mishra, a final year NIFT student, “The exam pattern was slightly different from previous years’ papers not very different though”.

Talking about NID entrance exam 2016 test pattern Komal said that as compared to previous years’ question papers “The exam pattern was almost the same and there wasn’t much difference in it”.

Apart from students, experts also share that the NID DAT was as per expectation and a good paper to score well. Shiksha.com has also done a detailed exam analysis for NID Entrance Exam 2016 along with the marking scheme.
