NIFT Entrance Exam 2016 Student Reaction
The first phase of NIFT admissions 2016 begins today. Candidates seeking admission in design programmes offered at NIFT need to clear a three-tier admission process wherein they first need to give the NIFT written entrance exam, aspirants who get shortlisted in this round are eligible to appear for the Situation Test as well as Interview round.
Candidates taking NIFT Entrance Exam 2016 were asked to reach their respective test centre atleast 30 minutes before the commencement of the test.
Aspirants appearing for BDes and MDes course admissions need to appear for two exams today, that is, NIFT CAT and NIFT GAT. For all the other courses (such as BFTech, MFTech and MFM), candidates only need to give the GAT test which will be held from 10 am to 1 pm.
NIFT CAT for BDes and MDes course admissions is of 3 hours duration paper in which candidates were asked to attempt a total of 4 questions whereas NIFT GAT for these course admissions is of 2 hours duration and candidates have to attempt 150 questions. On the other hand, NIFT GAT for BFTech, MFTech and MFM course admissions is of 3 hours duration and contains 150 questions.

NIFT Entrance Exam 2016: Students speak before giving the test
Most of the students we spoke to before the exam looked quite nervous and were not willing to share anything before the exam started.
Preeti Singh shares, “I have always dreamt of studying at NIFT and now that I am appearing for this exam I hope nothing goes wrong and that dream becomes a reality. Since, my expectations from myself are so high, I am extremely nervous right now”. On similar lines, Deepa too revealed that, “Each and every child who has registered to give the exam is creative but what matters more is whether you are more creative and innovative than the rest and that is what is freaking me out right now, that I may be good but if someone is better I may not get selected”.
However, there were some other students who were not at all tensed about giving NIFT Entrance Exam 2016. Mitali Agrawal shared, “If the paper pattern and type of questions asked are similar to last year then I will definitely score well”. Another student, Anshul Mehta who hopes to become a famous Bollywood fashion designer like Manish Malhotra said, “I am confident with my preparation level and have also seen previous years’ questions asked and I am sure I will perform well in the paper”.
NIFT CAT 2016: Student Feedback
Most of the students, Shiksha.com spoke to after the NIFT CAT paper shared that the test was very simple and they enjoyed solving the questions asked.
Piyush Bhatia, who has applied for BDes course at NIFT said, “The exam was fine not very hard. There were only two types of questions asked in the paper, in one we had to colour and in the other we had to draw”. Along similar lines, Pushpit Kumar also shared that, “My paper went very well. In one of the questions asked we had to tell colours for happiness and sorrow. And then we were asked to design footwear and dress design for 2D shapes”.
NIFT CAT paper had questions related to colour theory which most aspirants found simple. “My first paper (CAT) was easy it wasn’t as difficult as I expected. It was good. It was a drawing exam and all we had to do was colour”, shared Kanishkta Aggarwal.
Nivriti, a design aspirants felt that the NIFT CAT 2016 paper required aspirants to be at their intellectual best and when asked how her exam went shared that, “Intellectual type of questions were asked in the paper which revolved around different colours and different shapes. NIFT CAT 2016 paper had questions which judged you on your ideas and with one shape what different things you can do. So, it tested your basic skills”.
Worried about the NIFT CAT cut-offs this time, Hitanshu Chaudhary said, “Exam was so good. It was very easy for me. The cut-off is going to be very high”. Talking about the questions asked in NIFT CAT exam, Hitanshu elaborated by saying that almost all the questions were “around “normal colour theory, nothing extraordinary but simple colour theory”.
Anika shared that, “The CAT paper was very easy, all the questions were around colour compositions and there were also questions on Product Design and Textile Design”
NIFT GAT 2016: Student Feedback
Talking about his experience of giving, NIFT GAT, Ravi Kumar, a BFTech aspirant said, "My paper went well, I am weak in Quant so that was a little challenging for me. Rest all the sections were easy for me". For Aakshi Singh also the BFTech paper was simple, "I had already practised some of the questions asked at my tuition centre, this helped build me confidence level and so NIFT GAT was easy for me".
Nisha Jain who has applied for MFM course at NIFT shared that the paper "was pretty easy as compared to last time. I am almost 80% confident that I will get through".
A St. Xavier's College student, Koustav Sen, MFM course aspirant revealed that his NIFT exam paper went average, "My paper went ok. It was not so good and not soo bad". He further shared, "English and Case Studies was a bit more difficult than the others".
Vedant, a BDes course aspirant found the GAT to be very lengthy, “The GAT was a little tough, it was time consuming. There were Maths questions, aptitude test type questions, the difficulty level was average but the test was very long”. Garima too felt that the GAT paper for BDes admissions was very long and she was quoted as saying, “I felt shortage of time. The difficulty level of Reasoning, Maths and GK section was average”.
Contrary to her expectations Anika shared that her GAT test went well, “My paper was good and the paper wasn’t as difficult as I was expecting. There were many questions on movies and brands”. Gaurika too shared that, “All the sections of the exam were easy”. Similarly, for Soumiya also, “The GAT paper was OK, it was not difficult at all”.
Talking about his experience of giving GAT, Sanchit Kohli said, “The difficulty level of GAT was at intermediate level. Maximum questions were asked in English section. The Quant had 15 questions, out of these, 3 were difficult and the rest were of intermediate level”.
Vasu Aggarwal further shared that, “The paper was really nice, I thought it would be difficult but it was very good”. When asked about the different sections in GAT and their difficulty level, Vasu said, “Only the Maths section was difficult, otherwise the logical reasoning and GK sections were quite simple”.
Adding to the same, Radhika revealed that, “The GAT paper wasn’t very difficult but it had speed breakers in which one could get stuck. Last year, the reasoning questions in GAT were very simple but this year it was a little confusing. The Maths and GK questions asked were Ok and English section was easy”.
A BDes aspirant, Akshita said, “From the type of questions I practiced I found the GAT paper to be much simpler than that and my exam went really well”.
On the other hand, Nitya wasn’t too happy about her NIFT GAT 2016 paper and went on to say that, “My GAT paper wasn’t that good because I messed up in Maths. The GK section was fine and questions were mostly about current affairs”.
