AICTE to release Rs 1 lakh maintenance allowance for J&K, Ladakh students
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to release maintenance allowance amount of Rs 1 lakh to all beneficiary students under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for the 2020-21 academic session.
The PMSSS is aimed at building the capacities of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh by educating, enabling and empowering them to compete in the normal course.
The Ministry of Education has clarified that before releasing the maintenance allowance, the AICTE has to ensure proper verification of requisite documents such as continuation certificate in the prescribed proforma and fulfilment of other requirements such as promotion to next class.
It further clarified that the institute and students should ensure uploading of all documents in support of their academic advancement (marksheet) at least up to the last semester except the current semester.
Under the scheme, the youths of J&K and Ladakh are supported by way of scholarship in two parts -- academic fee and maintenance allowance. The academic fee is paid to the institution where the student is enrolled after online counselling process conducted by the AICTE. The academic fee covers tuition fee and other components as per the ceiling fixed for various professional, medical and other undergraduate courses.
In order to meet expenditure towards hostel accommodation, mess expenses, books and stationery, etc, a fixed amount of Rs 1 lakh is provided to the beneficiaries and is paid in instalments Rs 10,000 per month directly into the students’ account.
