The joint seat allocation process is held basis the ranks secured by candidates in JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Earlier, the counselling process for admissions to NITs, IIITs and other Government Funded Institutions and that to IITs were done through separate counselling platforms.
The idea behind introducing a single counselling platform was to reduce thousands of seats going vacant in engineering colleges across the country. The Joint seat allocation process was introduced to make the whole process of admissions smoother, effective, efficient, transparent and a lot faster.
To be eligible for JOSAA counselling, candidates must have appeared for either JEE Advanced or JEE Main. Candidate can get a seat to the highest possible choice of academic program, only if he/she is considered under following factors:
- The category (GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, etc.) of the candidate
- The position of the candidate in rank list
- The order of preference of academic programs by the candidate
- The availability of seats in different seat categories / seat quotas for which the candidate is eligible for.
