Shiksha recently had an interaction with top experts from HCL wherein the experts talked in detail about BEE HCL’s Early Career programme structure, admission process, eligibility criteria and fees, placements and recruiting companies, among other things. Read on to find out a few pertinent facts about HCL and all that an aspiring BTech student would be keen to know.
Q. What is Tech BEE HCL’s Early Career Programme?
Tech Bee HCL’s Early Programme is a work integrated programme. It focuses on the overall education and personality grooming of a class 12th candidate. Academically brilliant class XII scholars can enroll for an unconventional fast-track career path that offers a top-quality job with HCL – India’s third-largest company. Not just this, it provides an opportunity to pursue graduation from India’s best technical institutions. Selected candidates undergo 12 months of training wherein they are prepared to perform jobs at par with the students graduating out of regular engineering courses.

Q. Since this seems to be something different than the other courses, can you please elaborate on the HCL TECH BEE- Programme structure?
To understand the course in length, we have clustered it into the following sets:
- Foundation Training Programme – Technical Foundation Training to ensure candidates are prepared for technology/domain training
- Technology/ Domain Training – Stream specific training to ensure that all tasks pertaining to a role can be performed
- Role Specific Training – hands-on project work to be assigned during the professional practice term
- Nine months of classroom training - Which lays strong emphasis on practical exercises, continuous assessments and assignments
- On-The-Job training or Professional Practice Term - The candidates will work OJT for 3 months working in live projects to gain exposure with the client environment and become job-ready
Q. Can you please elaborate on the selection process?
A candidate must go through the following steps to successfully become a TechBee Scholar:
Counselling → Interview → Online Test → HCL SAT → Onboarding
- Counseling – Here, the candidates get in-depth information about the programme curriculum, training, and pedagogy. Students can clear all their doubts here
- Interview – The candidates undergo a face-to-face interaction with HCL selection committee to prove your mettle
- Online Test – The candidates have to go through online test. Questions would be based on Quantitative, logical, reasoning and language abilities.
- HCL SAT – Welcome to HCL and start your journey to become an Ideapreneur
- Onboarding – Selected candidates can now start working on prestigious projects and hence begin their career path
Q. What are the career opportunities post programme completion?
Candidates upon completion of this training programme and successful deployment at HCL Technologies have an option to enroll for work-integrated learning programme offered by HCL’s partner universities to complete their UG and PG degrees. At present, HCL has tied up with SASTRA Deemed University and BITS Pilani - Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
Q. Can you elaborate on the eligibility criteria and admission process? Also, are there any sample papers available?
Candidates who have passed class XII in the year 2019 or 2018 with a minimum percentage of 60% marks across boards (CBSE / ICSE / NIOS Boards / Uttar Pradesh / Punjab / Rajasthan / Uttarakhand / Haryana / Maharashtra / Tamil Nadu / Andhra Pradesh / Karnataka / MadhyaPradesh State Boards) can apply for this programme.
- They should have opted for Mathematics or Business Mathematics in Class XII
- Those interested in the programme have to attend a counselling session at HCL campus or at a venue where HCL is conducting its walk-in drives
- After the counselling session, HCL’s Standard Aptitude Test will be scheduled to gauge the students quantitative, analytical and communication (English) skills
- Post completion of the test, students will go through a round of interview. Upon clearing the interview, they will be given the offer letter
- Candidates who wish to apply can register. Sample papers along with the study material will be mailed to them
Q. Is it necessary to have Maths in 11th and 12th? Will there be any difficulty in taking up this course?
We are extremely sorry, Maths in Class XII is mandatory.
Q. What is the fee structure of the entire programme? Is there any entrance fee? Are there hostels available? When will one start getting the stipend?
The fee for this programme is INR 2 Lacs + Applicable Taxes (Financial assistance in the form of bank loan is available). Also, if you score 90% and above in your training, you will get 100% programme fee waiver. If you score between 85-90% in your training then 50% programme fee will be refunded.
Yes, we do have hostel facilities. The hostel fees would be charged extra.
No, the college does not charge any entrance fee. One can simply log in and fill in the form.
The stipends start from the first month of training.
Q. Does the university assist students to get financial assistance from banks in order to be able to get admission?
Yes, sure, we help students get financial assistance during the admission stage. Financial assistance in the form of bank loan is available. Financial assistance is arranged in a way that there is no financial burden on parents or students.
Q. How many seats are there for every batch? Also, will this not affect one’s studies? Can one take admission in other Colleges while pursuing this programme with HCL in correspondence?
We believe in providing quality and hence limit the batch size to 30-35 students only.
Not really, we have deployed approximately 500 employees through this programme across locations like Noida, Lucknow, Madurai, Chennai and Nagpur.

Q. Is the training programme available in all cities? And when would one get the degree from BITS?
Currently, the programme is available at Noida, Lucknow, Nagpur, Chennai, Bengaluru and Madurai.
After completion of the course: 1 Year with HCL and 4 Years with BITS.
Q. Can you please let us know the different sectors in which one can find job opportunities post programme completion?
This course prepares students for IT Careers with HCL. Depending on the performance you grow in your career.
Q. What is the minimum package offered by HCL after successfully completing the programme?
After the successful completion of the training, Tech bee’s scholars will receive of INR 2.2 Lacs /annum as their starting salary (in Chennai, Noida and Bengaluru) or INR 2.0 Lacs (in Lucknow, Madurai and Nagpur).
Q. What about the entrance dates and venue?
Exams are in progress, you can register for it. Once done, we will check your registration and eligibility criteria and schedule the examination. Also, we will try to provide a centre near you.
