The Research Centre was officially launched by the BITS Alumni Anuradha and Prashanth Palakurthi on February 17, 2020 (Monday) at the K. K. Birla Goa Campus.

Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani has got a new Artificial Intelligence Research Centre at its Goa Campus from two of its alumni who are a couple now. The new research centre has been created with the support of BITS alumni Anuradha and Prashanth Palakurthi. Titled after the contributing BITS Alumni, the Artificial Intelligence Research Centre is has been named “Anuradha and Prashanth Palakurthi Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research (APPCAIR)”. The Research Centre was officially launched by the BITS Alumni Anuradha and Prashanth Palakurthi on February 17, 2020 (Monday) at the K. K. Birla Goa Campus. By means of video conferencing, the alumni couple became a part of the inauguration ceremony for the AI Research Centre.

US$ 1 million donated towards Research Centre

The BITS Pilani alumni couple has contributed around US$ 1 million for establishing the Artificial Intelligence Research Centre at the Goa Campus of the BITS. Prashanth Palakurthi is an alumnus of ’78-83 batch and founder of Reflexis Systems. The Artificial Intelligence Research Centre established under the banner of ‘APPCAIR’ will be supervised by Prof. Ashwin Srinivasan, 1981 Batch Chair Professor in the branch of Computer Science. The Research Centre will expedite all AI-driven or research based on AI at BITS Pilani. The APPCAIR Centre would be controlled by a professional team comprising professors, researchers, students and domain specialists from the industry. The centre would work meticulously with other higher educational organisations and industry in attaining its specified goals.

The centre would also be benefitted from recent modifications in the CSR regulations, as funding to the higher educational institutions for pursuing research is now being stimulated by the government.
